hello, i'm new here and the windows 98 classic theme is something i've been trying to get to work for quite a while now. specifically the recolorable theme. for some reason the original creator stopped updating and never finished that feature. i can't figure out why, but the skin studio isn't recognising my tga files that i've converted from the original bitmaps. can someone here give me the rundown on what i have to do to make a recolorable asset, or can someone pick up where the original author left off?
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, have you write in that skin comment section or PM the skin author directly?
And do know that Windowblinds has a good mod system to change colors.
ThanksBasj,Stardock Community Assistant.
the theme hasn't been updated since 2020, and most UI elements are not recolorable. i wanted to reproduce a theme from windows 98.
For that, I believe it is best you create your own skin from scratch. Here a guide on how you can do that: https://forums.stardock.com/486023/windowblinds-support-faq#makeskins
Thank you,

so there is no way to complete the addition of the recolorable UI? the original author started but didn't finish.
i was hoping to finish what he started and upload the updated copy, if that's permitted or possible anyway.
To upload any changes in the original skin, you would have to have the original author's written permission to do so included in the zip file. Without that, your upload would be rejected.
how would i contact them? when i click "send private message" it redirects me to an unrelated page.
First, you can put in your request in that skin comment area itself. Second you can Open SemoB profile page and click the Send Private Message button. Something like screenshots below.
Is that a skin included with your WB purchase? Who is the author of the skin?
the skin author is SemoB, it was not included with the purchase.
That's a skin from 1999 which was updated in 2020. SemoB was last seen 3/2023. You might be able to contact him and get consent.
At any rate, you might only be able to modify the skin and use it yourself.
Edit: If you go to this thread and click on SemoB, you can pm him or email him. https://forums.wincustomize.com/499845/page/1/#3777913
i'm honestly having trouble even getting started with modifying the skin. it needs a recolorable version of a lot of assets, which the original author was able to get working for the buttons and window backgrounds. i'm using an old version of paint shop pro to work with this, and for some reason the skin studio is reading the tga files as blank.
i've been trying to make a recolorable version of the scroll bar assets but no luck so far.
Try save under png file instead. Than import using skinstudio. Skinstudio will auto convert it to tga.

ok i posted on one of his threads, but considering the last time he was on, i will have to wait a while. thanks for the help guys.
ok i will give that a try
importing the png seems to have worked, but i don't understand what needs to be done to an asset to make it recolorable
dual_boot91, I meant that if you click on his nickname, you can choose to pm or email SemoB. The latter might get you a quicker answer...
sorry my thinking is a little off today, had a rough night.
i tried clicking on the link to email him, but it just takes me to thread they made and there is no sign of an email address.
Don't know why...I get the correct page.

i don't understand, i'm getting totally redirected. to this URL https://forums.stardock.com
🤷🏻♂️
The only way I can think to explain that is my access level, but I remember having the choice to email or pm long before that.
then i suppose i'm out of luck as far as email goes. if you could find out if he plans to finish the theme i would greatly appreciate it. if my attempts to contact him fail that is.
