I wouldn't be posting this, but Fences 3 was specifically sold as working with modern hires displays, and as far as I can tell it's no better than Fences 2 there.
How to replicate (this happens on multiple Win10 machines, have no Win7 left to try it on):
- Have a 4K display as the primary display. In Display Settings, set the scaling for that monitor to over 100% (I'm at 150%).
- Have a non 4K display, have scaling at 100%.
That's it! #2 might not even be necessary, but all our machines with 4k have secondary monitors.
Symptoms:
- Go to sleep/suspend. Wake up. When you wake up, the icon that was selected when you slept will be randomly scattered around the desktop.
- Go to sleep. Wake up. Your fences may or may not have randomly increased in size by the scaling percentage. They will do this forever until they're far larger than the entire desktop.
- Go to sleep. Wake up. Your icons may (or may not) be randomly rescaled, probably by scaling factor, with a weird transparency issue where the transparent bit is still the right size. If you reboot they'll go back to right size.
- Run any game that changes the resolution (full-screen). When you switch back to desktop any of the above may have happened. They will continue to happen every time you switch back, so after a few hours your fences are just a complete mess.
This all happened with Fences 2 as well. I'm posting this because I've been playing 35MM (which changes res) and at this point my desktop is screwed up beyond repair - at least I can revert to a snapshot - it's a great feature!
Driver-wise, some of them are using GeForce video, others are using Intel video. All drivers up to date, Win10 up to date. Don't have any ATI video to say how that'd go.
Edit: In case it matters, opacity is set at 20% for fences when they're not being hovered over.
