I was starting to wonder. I had seen the same issues. Another issue I've seen is a failure for restore snapshot to handle multiple monitors. Despite the snapshot image showing multiple monitors, the result of a restore is all fences on the primary monitor in the respective overlapping locations. Hopefully they can get an update out soon.

No, thanks. Even when that would work, this would not help me. I am definitely not buying Fences 5 for obvious reasons mentioned above as so many others. And I am not bying software based on subscriptions. As far as I know, those are the only two options here.

When you need informations to solve those new issues, just tell me ...

I know may way around Stardock software and where it places its files and entries and I already tried a clean uninstal. I even have the same issues on my notebook since about the same amount of time which was freshly installed (Windows) and it was the very first installation of Fences there. My PC and notebook have the same OS and same applications installed so this is out of the way also.

I can try your method anyway the next days when I find the time, but I guess the outcome will be the same under this conditions and report back here ...

Maybe we will hear from others which are affected and gather some more informations this way.

Since there was no update for quite some time now, the version of Fences always was 4.22 in any of the above cases and has therefore not changed the last weeks since this issues started. The only thing all that cases seem to have in common at the moment are the last Windows updates, but that may be, of course, misleading ...

So, I tried to purge and reinstall and tested a few days now and already have seen some of the issues (not started at boot, resized Fences, lost icons – see initial post) again. That does not seem to work or make any difference so far.

After the purge and new installation, now also some shortcuts keep dissappearing from my desktop as a new issue. I double checked using the File Explorer and with it the Desktop folder and they are not only visually gone but deleted. I guess, this is due to the strange resets Fences does. My guess is, that not only the Fences are resized but reset to a prior snapshot which did not contain the new shortcuts.

I just installed Windows 10 Pro, and installed my Fences 4.  

• When I double-click on a Foxit .pdf file, Foxit opens it within the Fence container.  I want it to open in the Foxit app.
• The only option I have for 'All new icons go to' is 'the general desktop'.   My list of fences does not appear for selection.

That's how I remember it, too. And why I think that there is an issue since some weeks and after some Windows updates since they occured at the same time.

As the missing shortcuts always and only occur when the layout of my Fences is changed (slightly reduced size as several others have reported here also) this seems to be in direct context to each other. Also, there simply is no other application which might could cause this.

I'd been running Windows 11 22H2 for a couple years, with Fences 4 initially, and then Fences 5 for I think several months with no problems.

Recently, in order to fix problems with one of my essential applications, I was forced to update to Windows 11 24H2. I began experiencing a problem where every time I right click anything on the desktop to open the context menu, there'd be a horribly long delay, and the desktop would go blank on all monitors. Sometimes the desktop would eventually repopulate, but usually without the context menu ever opening. Other times, I'd have to use Task Manager to kill and restart Explorer to get the desktop back. I uninstalled several software products that I thought might be causing conflicts with Windows. But when I removed Fences 5, that's when the problem stopped.

I'm lost without Fences! Please fix it!

As I said, shortcuts to applications games (LNK files). I am aware, that files on the desktop are sometimes simply not visible when there are issues with Fences and that happens too; but I also lost some of them several times now, which is way more serious.

However, only shortcuts by now. I have two normal Fences and on attached to the top screen edge and collapsed. All of them are affected, but the collapsed one more than the others. In fact, I often find files in the other two at boot. Just today, I booted my PC and again found the Fences resized and the context menu entries missing, but at least Fences was running.

We tested Fences 5 on y friends PC formerly running Fences 4.22 also and then he went back to Fences 4.22 again as we found out the new prices and very few new features. Fences 5 was technically better and more stable so there seem to be upgrades under the hood also. It also does integrate better. He now also has some of this issues now, but in my system, I did not mix versions.
