The efficacy of nature in controlling overpopulation in species has always amazed me. I understand that hunters now provide the service that higher echelon natural predators once provided until they were hunted to the brink of extinction such as grizzlies, etc..

However, this problem with domestic cats that are now feral is again, the aftermath of irresponsible people and I think that perhaps a better solution can be found. These, after all, are not game animals. How will a hunter differentiate between a feral or a pet. Many people in urban areas have mouser cats ? Also, it is my understanding that most feral cats remain in the cities.

A blanket free for all on these cats seems an extreme solution. This carte blanche killing of feral cats is bound to appeal to those who are not hunters and with a penchant for mischief.

I hope other avenues will be explored. This just seems cruel.

I agree with gooberbean.... the solution is in spaying and neutring.

::nods::I also agree with both of you..::laughs:: I just threw the hunter stuff in there because you made the comment of not shooting a single animal. While I am sure you would not, if you said you would not..I just wanted to point out it does happen for reasons other than sport or food...
I personally love venison, rabbit, quail, pheasant..etc..etc..not to mention that there isnt much that swims in the sea that I wont eat..raw..LoL!..well not all of it raw..but most.
As a hunter/fisherman I also am concerned about preserving the animals, and have learned the reason why there are limits,seasons and even gender based licences. Even if I do not hunt or fish within a year I do purchase my licences to support F&G in their efforts to maintain and preserve them.

As for the cats...Hopefully that will get worked out, I have a feeling it will.

I do hope they will find a better solution.

If you consume what you eat I have no arguments there. I just can't understand people who kill with no other purpose in mind than to kill and move on the next target.

I actually love guns and target shooting but I could never bring myself to kill an animal unless my life was in peril.

I'm just one of those strange people who sees "Bambi" in every animal.

My question is...who manages the over population of people...I hate to say it but someone needs to cull the herd in regards to human population. I see people doing far more damage to the world than all the animals combined.

Leave that to Bush and the wars he wages..thats sure to get rid of a few, but anything other than that would be plagues, flu epidemics and natural disasters..

Anyway, if anyone wants to have some simple fun..LoL..and I od mean simple.. Try to get the drunk German?? home..high score is 86 meters I guess..LoL..its a flash based game..german I think..

any abuse to an inocent creature is unwaranted and deemed criminal in my book...i agree with population control.. but heck theres better ways ..spaying, neutering..etc...but just to "open season" is kinda lame... this reminds me of the seal clubbing thread that was posted a few years ago.. totally insane abuse .. it was even deemed a sport and licences were being sold....if this is allowed .. it will only be a matter of time til someone tries to claim it's a sport and set up ticket booths ...just plain sad that the blood lust in the world is so far out of hand ...

As humans reproduce and reproduce and reproduce, open wiildlife land becomes more scarce. We push wildlife right into our backyards more and more every day. When that happens , the wildlife becomes a nuisance?
It honestly makes more sense to have an open season on humans. We are the cancer, not the kitties.

the wildlife becomes a nuisance?


Around here, people pay all sorts of money to live on an estate that is partially wild, and then complain that the deer are eating their flowers, which I think is hilarious. Funniest thing I ever saw was going to someone's house who was having problems with beavers. He bought a 10 acre lot of land that had a river run through the corner, built a nice house and a small pond surrounded by ornamental trees. When I got there the pond was surrounded with ornamental stumps; perfectctly spaced and about 18" high. It was very hard to not laugh in front of the customer. Go Beavers!

Amen to that! I also wish more people in this world would take some kind of responsability for their pets(spay&neuter)All my animals are fixed except my horses(geld to follow soon)I feel so badly for all the strays out there because of starvation, vehicles, ect. I hope something can be done to help these "little ones" not hurt them.

carolelee,If you are interested I would point you in some directions where with very little effort or money, you could help all different kinds of animals. I am a member of the ASPCA and Humane Society of America. There are so many things you could do.
