Is WindowBlinds 8 Going to Work on Windows 10 ?

Ive just rolled back my windows 10 update as windowblinds dosent work.Iwill try again as soon as an update is released

Is WindowBlinds 8 going to work on Windows 10? I'm getting kind of nervous since July 29th is just around the corner, and I haven't seen much info on this compatibility question.

No.

Windowblinds 8 is NOT COMPATIBLE with Windows 10, and it cannot be made to be so.

Just as there was/is a Windowblinds 8 for Windows 8 there'll be an appropriate Windowblinds for Windows 10....

Hello everyone, I haven't been on for a long time as my job puts me on the road most days. Thanks for the update on Windows 10 and WindowBlinds, Jafo. It is good to see you and some other long time members again too. I am running Windows 10 and it's working fine but not nearly as finished as Windows 7 was when it was released. JMHO of course. It was with great sadness that I uninstalled WindowBlinds before upgrading. When Microsoft started all of the needed updates, my system was not terribly happy. I am really looking forward to WindowBlinds 10. I miss my WindowBlinds and all of those beautiful skins a lot.

If its anything like the upgrade from Windowsblind 7 to Windowsblinds 8 back a couple years ago. It was like a 6 - 8 month wait to get our hands on a working beta copy of it.

Maybe some should have waited for Stardock, before making the upgrade. Stardock isn't, and can't be expected to be, on Microsoft's schedule.

Re 'nearly as finished'...Win 7 was really just a correction of Vista....and it was vista that was seriously undercooked....so 7 was 'well done' by then.

With 10 it's more like MS is running to the bathroom after a bad experience with 8 and is barely settling its stomach afterwards with 10.

OK...I think I've done the cooking analogy to death.....

at least there's finally a benefit of an Object Desktop Infinite subscription. when there's a major os update you can stop paying and re-subscribe when/if the software works again.

I agree totally, Jaffo. It seems like they were really rushing to get Windows 10 out. They were pretty blunt about acknowledging the failure of Windows 8. Loving Start 10 and my system looks decent again. Like one other person said, it does feel rather naked without WindowBlinds but better to get it right. I am hearing September or October for the next updates to 10. Have you or anyone else here heard anything for certain? Not that I am anxious or anything. I'm not a programmer but will be happy to beta test the next version of WB if needed.

It's not 'sounds like', it's 'definitely not compatible' - yet.

You should have no issues with updating your Object Desktop Subscription whilst Windowblinds is not-yet compatible with 10, other than the 'please wait until it IS compatible before installing'. ...

Your Object Desktop Subscription is entirely functional with functional software for which it was intended. Windowblinds [and the other software] still functions as usual with the OS vers for which it was purchased.

It is entirely beyond Stardock's purview of control to determine whether a Customer is going to move beyond supported/functioning OS vers to become early adopters of a new OS.

I am sure that if you were to contact sales@stardock.com they would be able to explain any options open to you more clearly...

The real question is whether WindowBlinds 10 will be able to tap into the Aero Transparency/Blur API that has returned to Windows 10 via the taskbar/start menu/etc. I would love to be able to run my old "all glass" skin from Windows 7 on Windows 10.

Regarding "OS vers for which it was purchased" - There was no specific question asking which version of my OS I was purchasing it for. They seem to offer multiple versions of WindowBlinds for multiple OS versions, so it seems they don't restrict you in that regard when you purchase it. Furthermore, there is nothing on the WindowBlinds page saying it doesn't work on Windows 10 yet:

Also, after I installed the Object Desktop download manager, it would not let me download WindowBlinds 7, saying that was incompatible with my version of Windows, but it did let met select & download WindowBlinds 8 - which I thought meant that would work with Windows 10. But of course, it did not.

I do not have access to your customer account records however it was reasonable to expect that since you joined back in August 2001 you would have had your Object Desktop subscription long before the advent of Windows 10.

Windows 10 is NEW software. It actually requires a lead time before shell enhancement software can be made compatible.

This has always been the case [certainly since 2001] and only differs more recently in complexity with Microsoft's radical rethinking [and about-face] of the OS interface.

If you have an active Object Desktop subscription, you will get WindowBlinds 10 when available. That's one of the benefits of the subscription.

I know Windows 10 is new - But Microsoft tends to provide pre-release versions of Windows to companies before it's released so that companies can test with it and make their software ready for that version of Windows ahead of time (I work for one such company). I had wondered if perhaps Stardock might have been doing this, but perhaps not all companies get access to the pre-release builds of Windows.

Stardock also gets access - they are a Gold Partner after all. However, as I've mentioned several times - it was not until the LAST RTM version was released that any confidence could be had in what the Windows SHELL was actually going to be.

Check your 'pre-release versions' and you should notice quite significant differences in the GUI design. Since Stardock's software interfaces directly with the Shell you actually NEED to know what it is FIRST. Designing Windowblinds to suit what you THINK might be the OS Shell is an utter waste of time.

Now, last I checked, Windows 10 was formally released [and thus 'finished'] to the public on July 29. It's currently the 5th of August.

I'll trust you to do the math...

are you sure?

it doesn't take much to be a "Gold Certified Partner". you collect some kind of points, pay a yearly fee and you're done. Stardock did that at least once eleven years ago in 2004.

but if Stardock still pays their yearly fee they should get in contact in Microsoft. they can not be found with MS's partner finding website:
