If that were true then disabling would have solved the issue, and yes I had restarted outlook after disabling it.

When the app is disabled the app is disabled.  It cannot have any impact on any applications opened after it was disabled.

Well this is beta software so if you are not comfortable with beta software when I would always advise only using the final release versions.

However I must repeat what I said earlier.  If the application is disabled (as in you open the app up the the enable button is enabled and the disable button is disabled) then the application is having no impact on other processes.  The processes remaining are simply there to avoid issues caused by the Vista / 7 UAC.

 Consider this more of a request than an actual bug.

I like to keep running processes and services in check. It would be nice if "Disabled"  meant completely unloaded.

 

Unfortunately that would require the process to elevate itself in order to disable the processes and likewise elevate to turn itself on.  Generally speaking this isn't exactly user friendly and the processes have been designed to use as little memory as possible.  Throw in the possibility of multiple users who may or may not want the app and you end up needing at least one process at all times - the service.

Thats not to say we will not look into the possibility of it shutting down one of the additional processes if it proves viable without producing a poor user experience.

It isnt a matter of comfort. It's a matter of me telling you the issues I experienced with the Beta software, what was required to fix it, and then being told that disabling the app solves the problem. It did NOT solve the problem this time. I'll install again and see if the same occurs.

If anyone does have problems with a window not showing up correctly when disable all the animation settings for now.  We have had reports of a small issue with those not being happy with a few select applications and the next beta should hopefully address those.

Also known is flicking a window to another screen may not send it far enough (or too far) if you have very different width monitors.  This has been resolved internally.

Ok, I re-installed. This time it did work as you said it would. The first time it did NOT.

Turning off animations also fixes the issue. Hopefully that will be fixed as it is one of the prime cool features of FX.

Thank you for your excellent explanation Neil.  *If it prevents people with UAC running from having problems I can live with it. (I can always blame MS)

*Yet another reason why I highly dislike UAC

Overall, I like the look of the UI and what I've tried so far looks good.

Overall, I like the look of the UI and what I've tried so far looks good. 

If you do want to stop it you can manually stop the Stardock WindowFX service and next time you reboot you will not have any processes for WindowFX.  To turn it back on you would need to restart the service.

It may be Outlook didn't actually properly close (due to being confused with an invisible window) and so when you reopened it you just got the same process.  Outlook does like to reuse windows and processes.

This is just beta 1 so it was expected there may be some rough edges with animations.  The plan is to take the feedback on the issues with them and then resolve the problem (I suspect it is a single issue that impacts apps which are doing something in a specific way) and add in a few more options too including a random option.

It would be very useful to know which of the animation types (Open / close / min / restore) is causing the problem.  Each of the individual animations should be identical, so this is just the overall class of animation controlled by the checkboxes thats important.

WOW - what a cool surprise for this Halloween weekend!

 

I have installed (had to manually enter email and code uggg) , but after that all seems VERY good so far.

 

LOVE the new fade out background windws feature. Looking forward to more open/close animations too.

Are you sure you didn't update something else around the same time?  Say intel video drivers (known for making right click menu slow)

WindowFX is very self contained and only has files in two folders and only writes to its own registry keys.  Once uninstalled there should be nothing left to cause any problems.

Neil, I have discovered that my graphics driver wasn't installed correctly and that was the problem with my context menu. Nothing to do with WinFX. I am sorry.

 

Still the thing with photoshop exists. Maybe we could get an exclusion list option, like with WB7?

I'll wait for the final release. WindowFX is way to slick to fool with. I remember having an old version on my emachine and it gave it the willies. But that may have been my fooling around with all the effects one after another.

Works great on my Vista machine. My laptop with Win 7 takes a long time coming out of hibernation so I had to turn it off. Nice work anyways.

XPHomeSP3 with MSExcel version 2003 (current patches)  I know, old o/s and ancient app, just throwing it out here in case it's useful.

EDIT:  ***Only seems to be happening with Windowblinds running.  Tried it with Gloss Black loaded and Polaris loaded, crashes on both.  Doesn't crash after unloading Windowblinds via systray unload.

Crashes Excel:

Enable WinFX4 Config HomeTab "Add additional options to the window right click menu".

Go to Excel window titlebar right-click menu "Window maximizing control".

Select anything other than "Always maximize to normal size".

Causes Excel to crash when clicking on the Excel window maximize button to execute the alternate maximized size. (crashes hard, exel.exe process just disappears from task manager)


Double-clicking on Excel window borders to resize works fine.  Right-click "Window size control" resizing works fine.  No animations enabled (XP).

Liking it in general.  Resizing enhancements are quite handy. Multi-monitor flash video fullscreen control in itself is worth having it installed.

WFX settings; Custom Min/ Shrink  Custom Restore/Expand

Inactive windows set to make transparent.

Two or more windows on the desktop.

When restoring a window from the taskbar, it remains transparent when clicked on even while dragging it. One of the inactive windows has to be clicked to get a solid window, or click on the desktop, then you can click on the window restored from the taskbar to make it solid. Hopefully some of that made sense.

On the desktop, it changes focus from window to window correctly.

I'm not seeing this app in Impulse.  I have 'show pre-releases ticked and I have reset data, etc, but still it is not showing.  My ObjectDesktop sub is current to Feb 2011, so it's not that, either.
