Konfabularot Client Vs Deskop X Client

I was wondering, expecially since I don't have DesktopX 3.1 but I have installed Konfabulator on my Mom/Sister's desktop, does Desktop X have a pop up installation of the client side DX that goes with you step by step as the program loads?

After loading Konfabulator, I think my Mom and My sister will be able to use it easiely. I can say the same for DX (2.4 of which I have) but on their computer, it runs kinda slow for some reason or another.

I puts all the widgets in a folder on your My Documents folder (Konfabulator).

Anybody else loaded Konfabulator for someone or themselves and also did the same for DesktopX 3.1 Client?

I have both installed here, and haven't noticed any particular slowdown with either one of them.

BTW, I moved my default Konfabulator widgets to inside its own directory, as I think putting them in My Documents is a dumb idea.

Whats "Konfabularot"?

And I only have DesktopX, so I wouldn't know.

I have Konfabulator and DesktopX standard 3.1.x.

DX does not have a series of pop-up dialogs at the end of installation as does Konfabulator.

DX has an object (widget) called "Welcome" which is a basic panel offering options to (1) load an object, (2) load a widget, and (3) load a desktop - the standard version also has a create option which loads DX builder. I do not know whether the client only version has this Welcome object, but I suspect it does.

If I load a weather widget, a calendar widget, and a clock widget in both programs, the memory overhead (usage) is a bit higher in Konfabulator due to the fact that it has to be running for the widgets to load.

DesktopX only needs to be installed on the machine to run widgets, and of course gadgets do not need DesktopX installed because they are stand-alone programs using approximately the same amount of memory as a widget of the same type would.

Performance on the computer will be determined by two factors - (1) system resources, and (2) the type of objects or widgets loaded. Some can use a lot of resources, especially if are running a theme that has many objects and advanced functions.

For ease of use relevant to widgets, I would actually say that DesktopX is easier due to the fact that all you need is a folder holding the widgets - which can then be double-clicked to run (like any other program shortcut).

Setting widget preferences can be accessed via right-clicking the widgets in both programs.

The main set-back to Konfabulator is that it does not support desktop themes, so you get a program that just runs widgets - which is okay, if that is all you want or need.
