I'm checking out objectdock and it's pretty cool but it doesn't work with steam apps it seems.
You can't drag a steam-based shortcut to a dock or have it in a flyout without it losing its icon. You just get a world icon that apparently represents a URL - and the default steam shortcut setup IS pretty screwy. The windows desktop and Fences don't have a problem with this.
After researching for a while and not finding anything good I finally found this:
http://www.jason-saggers.com/?p=1573
...which details how to setup steam apps for the dock so that the retain their icons. I'm sure I can do this. But it's a pain in the backside and would be excruciatingly painful to do for the number of steam games I have.
And incidentally - the entire reason I'm trying out fences and object dock is because I have my desktop plastered in icons for steam games. So if objectdock doesn't properly handle steam games it's kind of useless for me here - which is a bummer since it seems like it has potential.
Somebody please tell me there's a better way to get this to work!
PS - Hmm, upon further review objectdock doesn't appear to handle the sys tray by defauilt reasonably either or work with icons for 64 bit apps, so maybe it's just not going to work for me. As a long time customer of Stardock's games who's just checking out this side of the company, I'm kind of shocked and disappointed by some of this.
