I'm just downloading it now.... been stuck at 24% for about 15 minutes.  Hopefully it'll get a wriggle on shortly.

In the time it took me to type the above, it went from 24% to 59%.... like wow, and thank goodness it ain't dragging so much.

It had done downloading in the time I did the previous update 'til now... like in less than a couple of minutes..

Installing now.... not too sluggish, either.

A couple of times when updating programs have required a restart of got the bit about configuring the computer and that it will shut down when it is finished.  Problem is it just stays there for 5 or 10 or 15 minutes, and gives no indication when it will finish or its progress.  Both times (the second time with the Windows 7 Service Pack 1) I just rebooted, and started Windows normally, and it seems to be okay.  But I really, really, *really* don't like it when they say to wait and there is no progress indicator or shown percentage, and 15 minutes later, no sign that *anything* productive is being done.  It's one thing to wait when you know how things are going.  It's another thing to wait, leaving your whole computer in a state where it can't be used, for who knows how long.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Well Mine is all installed and everything is sweet.  I've had dinner in between the obligatory reboot and now... but all up it took under an hour from start to finish/my new Win7SP1 desktop.

Anyway, so far so good!  Things do seem a little snappier/more responsive, but then they never were sluggish to begin with.

No, just the hang at 24% here.  Everything else went quickly after that, and during shutdown/restart post-installation there was a progress bar to denote the percentage completed.

I ran a few benchmarks and the performance of the 2 systems I checked is around the same as before SP1.

Just about everything I read shows SP1 to be about stability so I didn't really expect any performance differances. Time will tell though since I haven't had a chance to really check everything out.

I have had my build of SP1 Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Build 7601.17514.101119-1850 for a Month now since it was first leaked, For a short while Softpedia had this same exact build on there site. Once Service Pack 1 is installed you may opt to remove old information regarding old hot fixes and the SP1 un-installation tool as well. Note that if you perform this step you can NEVER remove SP1! It may behoove you to keep a full image pre SP1 backup of your system if you ever want to go back

On most systems you should expect between 500MB and 1.5GB of space recovered by running this program. To run you must launch a command prompt with Administrator privileges, then execute the following command:

My laptop did something strange: Got a notification about some operation going on and that it would shut down afterwards. Well, this hung for over 30 min, so I hard booted. SP1 didn't install, so I went to Windows updte and installed and no probs. Very strange happenings.

See reply #29 in this thread.  I didn't get the problem with SP1 not installing though, just the hanging when restarting.

  I found the best way to install sp1 for windows 7 x86 was through safe mode. I tried about four times with windows update and kept getting errors. I downloaded the installer, re-booted into safe mode and thst was it. I let it do its thing and now its all done. took about 45 min.

I installed sp1 with no problems, other than it being a slow download.  my sytem is still working like a charm.

Unfortunately I'm stuck with what others provide, slow or not so slow. Maybe one day when I get rich and infamous. lol
