This weekend I also Happened to pick up the Plantronics Pulsar 260 bluetooth headset. After the untimely demise of my last stereo head set, the Plantronics Voyager 855 Stereo Bluetooth Headset. I was in the market for another.. Oddly enough if left in ones pocket it is not hard for the MRS to wash said item and render it toast.
I was hoping to find another wireless head set like the 855 or find the 855 its self, but no one stocks it any more for some odd reason. Which kind of sux ,as it worked well as a standard mono ear piece but could have a second ear piece attached for stereo listening. Having the detachable stereo piece made it the 855 versatile enough to be used for driving unfetterd by wires as well as perfect for listening to music in stereo when not driving.
But since I couldnt find it or one simular I went with the pulsar 260. Why? because like the 855 it has Ear plug style Ear pieces.
I cant stand those ones with the ear bud style speakers that sit in the ears opening, they hurt and are most annoying. The 260's ear Plugs sit nicely in the ear canal and block out all the outside noises, which is handy in construction. I can hear the call without all the machines drowning the caller out.
The 260 is quite the attractive package done in sleek black with silver highlights, and look very sexy when paired with my Ipod touch.*using a motorola Bluetooth Ipod transmitter* Unlike the 855 tho it has a dongle with a wired head set, which the wires can get tangled up in the steering wheel when driving, so be careful.
The dongle has a lanyard for wearing around your neck or a clip to attach to a pocket or belt. Tho it kind of defeats the purpose of having a bluetooth headset when the wires are long enough to get in the way. I personally went to bluetooth to get away from the wired head sets that constantly got tangled in every thing. So these are a bit of a step down IMO from the awesome 855, which only has a short wire for the second ear bud when it is attached for stereo listening.
Pairing with my LG Chocolate VX8550 was a snap, Press and hold 2 butons to enter pairing mode and add it it the phone. It also paired easily with my Motorola bluetooth Ipod transmitter. **Yes the Motorola Bluetooth transmitter does work with the Ipod touch** The 260 can control the music on both the Ipod as well as the Phone thru the 260's Dongle player buttons.
I even paired it with my Laptops Bluetooth dongle for listening to my tunes/movies etc.
One cool extra was the output cable for the dongle, it plugs in to the dongle from where you would unplug the Headset and the other end is a male 3.5mm headset plug you can use to plug in to your MP3 jack on your car or other audio device. Now I can listen to my Ipod, phone or laptop thru my car stereo, while having minimal wires hanging about.
Sound quality for music as well as calls is clean and clear, tho the mic being tetherd to the headsets wires is not as clear for the person on the other end of the line,as it rubs against clothing and stuff as you move around. While its not bad enough to ruin the calling experience it is not as clear as a fixed boom microphone utilized by traditional "over the ear" head sets.
There is also a Call button on the Mic to seamlessly transiton from music playing to recieving a call without having to mess with the media player, and back again when the call has ended.
Even tho I dont really care for the Wired ear plugs, I give the Plantronics Pulsar 260 4 stars. It is a nice stereo headset with enough functions to get the job done.
