Good evening, I have been using the free version of Objectdock for too many years. It has worked flawlessly until I moved over to Win 11, objectdocks works perfectly well, but it really affects Windows 11. I have been working around the problem since first moving over to Win 11, believing it was something in my years on years of backed up and reused appdata/documents etc etc that was the problem. Today I sat down and figured it was time to find the reason behind the problem, this is not my first rodeo as I have seen a similar stupid conflict before with MSI Auto updater (58k program early 2000s) that would cause Windows Gaming to crash/not start.
So let's get to the problem. I could not right click on a file goto properties, then change the programme to open said file with a default or chosen piece of software. I also could not right click and 'open with' choose app to open file. Both would fail to do anything. Today I started by removing all the saved files in 'appdata', game saves first, then older stuff I have not used in maybe a decade, then got bored and thought sod it delete the lot. So reset the OS, check that I could change default software options after the restart, and everything was fine. So transferred the objectdock and stardock appdata over and bang no more options to change default programmes. So disabled Stardock, everything stayed the same, then I disabled Objectdock and boom all options were accessible again. So started up Stardock, no problems, started Objectdock and here I am moaning about it here.
I know the free version is long gone, but I am concerned that buying the new version will cause the same issue. Does the new Object cause conflicts with choosing default software and or changing that software? It only seems fair I buy the software after so many years using the free version, but if it suffers from the same conflicts then I would rather cut my loses and wish for those halcyon days where my desktop was empty of shortcuts as they were all held in Objectdock.
Apologies for the long winded story and resolution, I would be most applicative if someone can allay my fears that the paid for version of OD will not cause the same issue.
Thank you all.
