I clicked on the wrong forum, but I actually have some advice for you if you want it. If you can get someones old piano, the little monsters with real strings go for it. People are giving them away. That takes the temptation out of a child, or daughter in your case, to learn from the electronic keyboard's display.
If that doesnt work out, go for any electronic keyboard. Dont spend a lot of money. 100~200 should do you, especially if you dont know a whole song by memory. A lot of it is wanting to and finding the time to really get into it. Use youtube for lessons, put a laptop next to the piano/keyboard.
The weighted keys are something someone wants after they really want that song they learned to sound as good as it could. You dont usually get anything special for under 200, but most you can upgrade to get the peddles, and that can change the whole sound.
I've had a keyboard for years that I never played. One day I wanted to start learning, got a quarter of the way through a song and the wife took it over for good.
It took 6 months, no joke, but she can play Fur Elise' by Beethoven now.
Me... Im typing about it. Lol.
At first, learning the basics was the goal, now she wants a baby grand. Thats why you start out at a couple hundred bucks. You cant ever go wrong. Once they love it, then maybe its time to buy something the price of a mid-range used car. Someone needs to drive it for it to be worth the investment.
(edit: I never answered the basic question. You cant really get a crappy keyboard from a name brand manufacturer. All will sound about the same.)
