What is MPC & what does Smart Startup do?

Found in SDC

While changing SDC settings, I came across some features I hadn't noticed before. After hanging around this place for a year, I thought I'd at least heard of the basics, but these 2 are new to me.

The setting options are in the SDC Tools>Settings dialog. Select Settings on the sidebar and locate the first section-- Settings

What are these 2 options?
-Enable MPC notification area support
-Enable MPC Smart Startup

When I first got Object Desktop, I remember seeing something called Smart Startup. During reboots, it would appear after the Logon and flash its StarDock splash screen while Windows was starting. In a few minutes it would vanish. Before long it quit showing up at all & I forgot about it.

If it facilitates or speeds up the the boot process, maybe it's worth activating. Or maybe it's just an oldie whose day has passed, or an experiment gone bad & people don't bring it up any more.

So what does it do? Did you ever use it? Was it fun?

-Enable MPC notification area support

This enables systray icons for ObjectDockPlus, DesktopX, ObjectBar, etc.

-Enable MPC Smart Startup

Not 100% sure what exactly this does, but it's supposed to help with some of the apps that run at startup.

I believe it's supposed to stave off letting you see windows load prior to being skinned

I believe this will be worked out with the new release of Object Desktop for 2007.
There has been some issues with this working properly and it was changed for some good reason.
I've worked with support some on this one and have a ticket for them to go over some of my issues with this. But I really think it is going to either be resolved or rewritten for a better way of doing it via new release of the OD program for 2007. So hang in there and lets see what goes with the hard working programers at SD~!

Actually it is not called "MPC" - But is "MCP" which works with the server at Stardock and is in real meaning of "Master Control Panel" server...

And it's function is to help load programs that you use via OD before other programs in the startup phase of your logging in process for your windows XP. Thus allowing these programs to start quicker and better before other programs would load to slow or even confuse the loading of said programs. Thus making for a better setting of the process's used by windows.

But with the new release's of said programs as DX and others which have changed considerably here in the last 8 months. The server function has ran into some rather strange effects. This is to be either explored and rewritten for a better approach or dropped completely soon enough with the new OD release.

I hope I answered some of your questions - if not just email me and I'll try to help you out with what I can to show you my approach to this problem also. I did get a favorable result from support.
Which they did do their very best at the tyime to help me with this very problem.

That might be my problem is that new setting was already set as enable on mcp smartstartup. I been having problems with new object desktop 2007 since I bought it 2 weeks ago. Maybe it isnt completely running right yet and is a bug because I spent a lot of hours trying to get object desktop running.

The term Object Desktop 2007 may be a little confusing to some. Object Desktop is just the name for a collection of individual programs, sold as a package subscription, which themselves are at various stages of development. OD "2007" has the same programs as OD "2006" & all prior versions of OD. Whether Stardock intends to give the impression that there's something different in OD 2007 vs OD 2006 is a marketing question.

As for MCP/SmartStartup, I've had it enabled continuously on all my rigs (XPP, XPMCE, Win2K) since it was incorporated into OD without any apparent issues. SGT's description of MCP's function is essentially correct - it sequences application loading to get the SD skinning apps running early in the boot process and to speed up the boot process overall. A year or two back some folks complained about the splash screen showing during boot & Stardock decided to stop it displaying - nothing about the program changed otherwise as far as I know. I don't run DesktopX, however, and it appears from the above that there may be an issue with MCP when recent versions of DX are used.

I'm incorrect about the splash screen, at least on Win2k - I rebooted that rig last night & the splash was there same as always. Perhaps the boot process is so much quicker on my XP rigs that it gets no screen time & therefore appears to be absent.
