That's Called Irony, Folks

break it, fry it, serve it up

Tony-winning actress Sutton Foster -- yeah, I never heard of her either -- was rehearsing the musical The Drowsy Chaperone at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles earlier this week when a funny thing happened on the way to the premiere.

During the number "I'm An Accident Waiting To Happen" she fell over and broke her arm.

That's called irony, folks.

I haven't been so amused by a story this week since the Baptist pastor stopped mid-baptism to grab a microphone and electrocuted himself.

I hear his last words were, "I feel the power of the Lord! Wait -- do you smell smoke?"


Just remember, comedy is when someone else slips on a banana peel and breaks their back; tragedy is when you develop a hangnail.

Let it out. Holding it in is bad for you. Hold in enough laughs and you're bound to start guffawing at the worst, most inopportune moment.

I felt kinda bad when I laughed upon first reading these things, too -- but as a matter of health it had to be done.

I wonder if going to the bathroom in Australia will soon be called "consulting a priest?" I hope it doesn't come to that!

Good grief Gene this IS too funny not to laugh! Even if it isn't p.c. of me, I'm sorry but I had to!

BTW, "irony" is currently my son's favourite word. He looks for the irony in each situation and exclaims, "Oh the irony of it all" or "Isn't that ironic mom, get it?!" It's getting so tired but we all can't help but be amused at him when he does it!

Gene,

I suppose you didn't hear about the fire in Laughlin, NV a few years back (that put the lights out) during Vicky Lawrence's performance of (what else) "The Night the Lights Went out in Georgia" (OK, so it wasn't Georgia, but it was still pretty cool).
