Easter Saturday

".....on that day, God was damned. The cross that held Jesus' body, naked and marked with scars, exposed all the violence and injustice in this world. At once, the Cross revealed what kind of world we have and what what kind of God we have: a world of gross unfairness, a God of sacrificial love.
We need more than miracle. We need a new heaven an@d a new earth, and until we have those, unfairness will not disappear.
A friend of mine, struggling to believe in a loving God amid much pain and sorrow, blurted out this statement, 'God's only excuse is Easter!' The language is non-theological and harsh, but within that phrase lies a haunting truth. The Cross of Christ may have overcome evil, but it did not overcome unfairness. For that, Easter is required. Someday, God will restore all physical reality to its proper place under His reign. Until then, it is a good thing to remember that we live out our days on Easter Saturday."

Like anyone else, I can only draw from my own experiences, beliefs and faith. I cannot speak for another. A couple of answers would be that the calendar changed from this event. The world has been rocked by the faith of a few. There will always be animosity towards "christians" and that is mostly due to the "Christians" themselves and misrepresentation for ulterior motives or lack of knowledge about what "Christianity" really is. Mahatma Ghandi (sp?) said he would become a Christian if he ever met one, meaning that that man believed in the principle but saw discrepencies in the actions of the believers. His thinking was flawed in one way. Christians are not any better than anyone else (just saying that lends itself to a type of elite-ism that I detest). Christians are forgiven. Period. The bible indicates that a believer in Christ would simply be one who has put his faith in the power of that forgiveness brought about by a miraculous death/atonement/resurrection performed by Jesus.

I do believe that the biggest problem with christianity is "christians", but people are at the root of most problems. I think the majority of the world would love their jobs if not for some of the people that are there. But we are put here for each other, and need each other.

Sorry for the rambling. You asked and although I don't have a great answer, wanted to give one take on it.

I've wondered the same things, myself. Here, I quote an excerpt from the CCC:

395 "The power of Satan is, nonetheless, not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful from the fact that he is pure spirit, but still a creature. He cannot prevent the building up of God's reign. Although Satan may act in the world out of hatred for God and his kingdom in Christ Jesus, and although his action may cause grave injuries - of a spiritual nature and, indirectly, even of a physical nature- to each man and to society, the action is permitted by divine providence which with strength and gentleness guides human and cosmic history. It is a great mystery that providence should permit diabolical activity, but "we know that in everything God works for good with those who love him."

When I was little my grandmother said that Christian means to try to "be like christ", by following his actions , things like thinking of others before one's self, having compassion for all people no matter what his or her station in life, looking to his father for all his blessings and thanking him for all things ,reminding others of his father with gentleness and understanding,standing strong against wrongdoing(she used the shopkeepers at the temple and his reaction to explain that to me.),and loving others whether they love back or not. This was a lesson to a five year old child , but I've carried it with me all my days.
I have to say , I feel more akin to the outspoken and impetuous apostle Peter than I ever will to Jesus, but I know I am always going to try my best to be like Christ. I am a follower of his words and deeds. I don't call myself a "christian' because in todays world it doesn't seem to mean the same thing as what gran taught me it was, but God knows what's in my heart and mind. and he's all that counts to me.

It's nice to share these thoughts with others on the night of Easter. Because of my belief I shall rejoice and say to those who share my belief,
HE IS RISEN!! HE IS RISEN INDEED!

for those with other beliefs, thank you for allowing me to share mine without predjudice.

Fortunately for me I got all my Moms Yancey and Max Lucado books when she went to be with God. As she got closer to her parting from earth, she told me of all the Angels that were there waiting to take her home. She could see and hear them. She told me that we are all suppose to Love one another above all other things. This is something I have known all my life. The reason so many are turned off by Christianity, is because of all the judgement and condemnation so many of its members have. They get so overwhelmed and consumed with the perfect nature of God that they think perfection is the most important thing. They start to believe that how they believe is the only way. Jesus knew of these flaws in man and instructed us to remove the plank from our own eye that we would see clearly to remove the plank from our brothers. He also told us to Love one another. Jesus did not go around with the rich and well to do. He was always found with the lowly and diseased. He did not judge or condem them. He loved them. No one can buy their way to God. No one can behave good enough to get there. We must Love everyone, and help all those we can. We must believe in Gods forgiveness through Jesus. We must do unto others as we would have them to do unto us. And as Quannah Parker, a half Native American, half white Commanche Chief and a very distant relative of mine said "I love the Indians, I love white man, I love all man, I love my mother, God says we are all the same anyway." Rejoice in the Lord and take delight in him. He is risen.
