Sins2: Epic Game Ownership is unknown error

When I launch the game i get this error:

"Epic Game Ownership is unknown. You must start the game when connected to Epic at least once before playing offline. If you believe that you have received this message in error, please view our troubleshooting guide. If the problem persists, please visit our support forums.

version=1.0.11.17

log=C:\Users\kazhi\OneDrive\Documents\sins2_pre_alpha\logs\sins2_log_17232.txt"

it then crashes back to desktop. Yes, I am currently logged into Epic game store and it is running when I click play.

I can provide my system specs if they are relevant, also I can't find the troubleshooting guide they mentioned in the error. I can't see the error window and the only way to get to it is to wave the mouse around until the cursor changes and then I click on it. All I see is the start-up splash screen.

Please and thank you.

I got the game to run now, not sure how but after logging in and out and restarting a bunch of times, also waved the mouse around and clicked what I believed to be some kind of window and BAM! it worked.

funny thing, I just run into the same issue now, constantly today, and no, I play Sins2 on Steam, don't have any Epic Games stuff and it worked fine few weeks ago though... No Idea what the problem there is, hoped to find a solution here but seems like there's nothing up xet really but waving mouse and "wild" clicking? xD

Bleh, so far, no luck for me, I've uninstalled all the stuff (game and compdata directory), re-installed, created and logged in into stardock account, game is still crashing... Few days / weeks ago, it run without any issue, please fix it asap, it's quite frustrating to pay for a game I cannot play suddenly anymore.

I run it on Steam BTW.

I've got this each time I launch the game. I do not have and don't want to have a epic account, I'm running Steam

I found a fix, at least for me on Linux (SteamOS) I changed the Proton Version to GE-Proton11-5-x86_64 (while still hiding the WINE Prefix via Protontricks for multiplayer reasons)
This might not work on Windows though...
