I find it odd that Microsoft alienates users instead of waiting for people to upgrade voluntarily. Make Windows 10 a free upgrade until end of life of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. They could have kept Windows 10 like it is and avoided a lot of the criticism just by not pushing it on people.
What is happening is a decline of the traditional PC. The hardware PC platform already took a hit with technologies like UEFI and Secure boot. You cannot expect UEFI to work the same on different computers. So the UEFI implementation is broken from a standardization perspective.
I see Windows 10 as a device OS, not a PC OS. Yes, you can (still) run the same Windows applications, but Windows 10 turns your computer into a device controlled by Microsoft. Forced updates that alter your Personal Computer make it less personal and combine this with intensive data mining the Personal Computer is not what it used to be.
Some people might not care about this, because they are used to smartphones and tablets or the restricted world of Apple. But long time Windows users might feel different. In fact they do. I was observing a thread in a computer forum where the majority of 300+ comments were angry about the changes to Windows.
I have nothing on my computer that isn't in OneDrive. And yet I am extremely unhappy about Microsoft and Windows 10. I don't see it as just an OS. It's about a paradigm shift in society.
You don't have to wear a tinfoil hat to come to the conclusion that Microsoft is doing this backed by NSA and governments. Why did Microsoft buy Skype? They paid 8 billion for something that doesn't generate a lot of money. You never hear a politician say we need more privacy. It's always about more surveillance to fight "terrorism". I think "1984" is here and unless we fight back it will only get worse. “Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
