Guys, I was looking at Craigslist and found a laptop that had a Zorin OS on it. So, I googled.

 

This seems interesting?

Bit of tact needed there...it's "people with disabilities" NOT 'disabled people".

Eg...a disabled car is a car which no longer works.

Yes, it does look somewhat interesting on first glance.  I like the idea of the appearance changer and that it's based on Ubuntu, so I will look into it further at a more opportune time.  I've downloaded it but will have to wait to play around it due to having to pack to move and my Linux machine being in one box or another.

No, they're using an incorrect terminology...I am not.

 

With or without a disability...people ARE people FIRST.

It's about as discriminatory and demeaning as you can get.

I have a disability... as in some bit's n' pieces don't work too well or don't work, period.

I would say that makes me disabled in some respects, but I wouldn't find it offensive if somebody pointed that out. 

Besides, I've been called worse things... other than late for breakfast.

Hehe, when I think of all the names my 1st ex used to call me, propellor head and effwit are almost complimentary.

And yes, I do use Linux distros, but I don't think I've been at it long enough.  As yet I haven't sprouted a propellor.

Anyhow, my work here is done... got a bite and I wasn't even fishing.

Terry's a Speech Pathologist...has been all her working professional life....34 years and counting.  She works with 'the disabled' ...an acceptable term.

Once upon a time the Institute was called 'The Spastic Society'...until such time as Joe-Brainless started using the term 'spastic' as derogatory.

Ask Doc.... 'spasticity' is a medical term.  The prime cause is 'Cerebral Palsy'....and fortunately that has too many syllables for the great unwashed to get their heads around and use/abuse similarly.

It ain't splitting hairs...or Political Correctness...it's simple good manners and [un]common sense.

That there are groups out there who ALSO choose poorly with their terminology does not make them right.  It's simply the same as how any 'minority/group/ethnicity' can refer to their own whereas others cannot. 

 

Here's the trick.  If 'they' really wanted to laud the benefits of their OS to people with disabilities they would do well to consider them and/or their needs as more than merely a bullet-point for their OS.
