[Suggestion] Bug Hunting XP

I tend to be a bit of a technical nazi, obviously I'm nitpicky about even little grammar issues, and while I would love to have store credit if not outright "a buck for a bug report" especially given my unemployment, how about at least a counter on the forums for being the first to report a confirmed bug on the forums, it could go in the mini-profile when someone makes a post, a counter like Karma?

Some advice from someone who has accumulated a few karma points. (my secrets revealed)

Be polite.

Be patient.

Be as accurate as possible in your reports and when offering assistance.

Be less of this:

I tend to be a bit of a technical nazi, obviously I'm nitpicky about even little grammar issues,

Nobody logged on for language lessons. Focus on the real issues, not on the trivial ones.

Try to make your report/suggestion/advice helpful, both to other community members and to support. Your rewards will be great. You may not get a counter for them, but you will know the score.

Most importantly: Asking for special recognition for being helpful defeats the entire purpose of giving said help. Give it freely with no expectation of compensation or reward, knowing you are doing what you can to make things better for all. There is far more satisfaction there than mere numerals can represent.

P.S. Your polite request has already earned you 4kp. See how easy it is?

I'm not hunting for karma points, my suggestion was a count of bugs first-reported, at least make bug hunting and reporting a little competitive.

I certainly aim to be polite and patient, but I am not hunting for a karma points score and do not feel dejected that I only have 2.  I admit to not giving kp to others as often as I should, but when I see a post awesomely overflowing with a high combination of kindness, courtesy, respect and helpfulness, I do.  But, again, I'm not talking about karma points here, but a separate score tallying first-to-find-a-bug.

It probably takes awhile to update, I'm guessing.  I'm not worried, though.

I should have said 4 additional kp.

So much for accuracy.

That in itself implies that there are enough bugs present to make a sport out of it. I doubt that is the case.

(You won't make many friends on the dev or web teams with accusations of an overflowing bug population.)

I myself have started 12 separate [BUG] or [GLITCH] threads, and that's not counting the several typos I have reported and a couple "not sure if its a bug" posts such as my inquiry about the Beta-recently-updated-3-to-4-items-equippable reduced back to 3 in the campaign which I wasn't sure if it was intentional or a bug.

The notion of any game being bug-free at release anymore seems sheer fantasy ... but contrary to what is probably popular belief, smaller studios (no offense) like Stardock actually seem to be better at fixing them than larger ones.  I've been severely disappointed in Firaxis, for instance ... regular updates have been anything but, and now they seem to have abandoned vanilla to work only on patching the premium G&K expansion.  Sid could probably much more readily swallow giving credits to early purchasers, I expect he has much deeper pockets than Brad and Stardock do, but I don't expect he'll ever do right for customers bugged out by release versions.

Its just not reasonable to expect anyone to release bug-free products anymore ... sad, but I fear it is truth.  My experience being a faithful Stardock customer of several years, though, is Stardock will make stuff right.  They were still patching GC2 more than 3 years after release, and Dark Avatar and Twilight of the Arnor both breached a 2.0 mark with patches.  How many games are patched into 2.x!?

Brad took great pains to not hide behind silence on War of Magic's less than stellar launch.  Not only did he give early purchasers credit for not one but two expansions, which I have not heard any publisher do anything so costly despite many launches being as bad or worse than WoM, but made a public confessional "I'm sorry!"  Yeah I'm sure its not thrilling to know OMG, our shiny game has bugz!  But I have seen no indication that 'Can we just talk quietly about this bug and not admit publicly that there are any?'  I would like to think that the un-fun could be made a bit less un-fun by throwing some fun competition into it.  Stardock is growing, but we paying customers are a potential gold mine of eyes and ears for finding bugs.

It is worth noting here that the OP is a gamer and has posted a number of bugs on the Elemental forums and in IRC.

It appears that he's cross-posted into the WinCustomize world and responses may be misconstrued.

WCers should put on their gamer hats as the launch of Fallen Enchantress bleeds into other areas.

Gamer hat on: Finding and reporting bugs will make the game better and more enjoyable for yourself and others. Those who frequent the game forums and/or play those games will thank you......or not.*  Such is life.

*I don't but I will still thank you for your efforts.

Best 'bug' I ever found in a game was in a third party addon track for GTR .... I fell through a 'hole' in the scenery and ended up on the datum level nothingness UNDERNEATH the '3D world'....looking up at the underside of the other cars....

I've had that happen in a few games.  Skyrim, most recently.

Why?
Some/many of us do not play games.
Why should we put up with (many, not including this one) pointless threads 'bleeding' in from the Stardock/Gamer forums?

Jus' sayin'

Home > Life, the Universe and Everything is a forum listed in the elemental game forums.  My post was suggesting something about the forums, a profile modification.  I did not see it as fitting under the 'Fallen Enchantress' categories.

If your only exposure to Stardock was its games, and you joined the forum for one of its games, such as the Elemental series, and you saw the forums as I screeshotted above, what would make you think the subforums under 'Life, The Universe and Everything' were off-limits to so much as mention a game if you wanted to discuss, say, forum profiles?

I didn't, but now folk are becoming hostile because I posed something that is relevant to Stardock's games.  This was meant to be a fun suggestion, but several are responding with less-than-gleaming civility.
