Tab locking

Groupy has the power to fix a major pain point in the Windows ecosystem

Hello Stardock Team,

Following up on your openness to improving Groupy's flexibility with exluding popups, I have another major workflow improvement to suggest: universal tab-locking for Groupy-managed tabs.

File Explorer is one of the most frustrating places when accidental closures happen. In complex projects where you have multiple deep folder paths, resource directories, and working folders carefully stacked together, a stray middle-click or errant close action instantly vaporizes a critical directory view, breaking your entire workspace context and costing valuable time to rebuild.

While browsers manage their own internal processes, Groupy seems to control the window container, the tab strip UI, and the primary window handle containment at the OS level. Even if a browser tab requires coordination with the underlying process, Groupy seems able to handle the tab strip interface where the close action is initiated.

Proposed Solution:

Please consider adding a "Lock Tab" option to the tab context menu that prevents accidental closure, with a primary focus on non-browser utility apps like File Explorer, as well as browser tabs.

  • Why it matters: Protecting File Explorer tabs prevents the massive productivity hits that come from accidentally wiping out complex directory layouts. In browsers, it similarly safeguards critical reference pages or active workspaces.

  • Technical Feasibility: If a simple "Lock Tab" option could suppress the close button or intercept the close trigger at the tab-strip level, it would completely eliminate accidental data and view loss for both File Explorer stacks and grouped browser tabs.

Adding a simple lock mechanism to prevent accidental tab loss would be a massive quality-of-life win for power users. Thanks again for listening to feedback!
