I’m sorry, but this feels like a highly misleading sales practice on Stardock’s side.
I own a Fences 3 license, which by default included usage on up to five devices. While I understand that Stardock is free to change licensing terms for newer versions, this must be clearly and explicitly communicated in the upgrade path.
After seeing the promotional pop-up and clicking Upgrade, I was redirected to an order page showing a price of $20. My reasonable expectation was that this would be an upgrade of my existing Fences 3 license, preserving its fundamental licensing scope.
Instead, the product being offered is “Fences 6” under different licensing conditions, without any clear notice that:
-
the number of allowed devices is different,
-
the original multi-device entitlement is not preserved,
-
and that this is therefore not an upgrade, but rather a discounted purchase of a new license with materially different terms.
