Problem upgrading to Windows 11 with Fences 3.1.1.3

Most existing icons relocated into NEW ITEMS fence

After successfully upgrading to Windows 11 Home (22H2), I found that the VAST majority (but not all) of my many icons had disappeared from their previous fences and I eventually discovered that they seem to have appeared (and significantly overflowed) in my NEW ITEMS fence. I don't see this as a reported problem here.

I have tried purging and reinstalling (having seen all/most of my icons unsorted onscreen in the process) but when I 'Apply snapshot' of my previous arrangement, I get the same layout and sorting as described above (see below):

As there are about 5 pages of icons in New Items, any help gratefully received ASAP to avoid the need to move them all individually!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Do you have setup rule to send all new icons/program into "New Items" Fences? If yes, try disable that rule and restore your original snapshots, which I assume you did backup before you upgrade to Win11. Try that and report back.

Thanks Basj, a good thought.

I DID have new items set up as you described, and now I have disabled that and restored the pre-Win 11 snapshot - there is no difference!

Did you mean that I should also re-boot, or purge and install again?

Because of what you did, upgrade the OS, the possibilities are numerous.

It very well could be that you would need to manually move icons or create one-time rules to get certain icon types to where you want them.

Is that the final answer? 

Rules won't help as the fences are subject-based and require manual placement.

So I'm condemned to moving them all myself?

Regardless of the rule type, you can trigger Fences to run them all or remove some and run a series of them.

I don't think I understand the relevance of this.

I couldn't invent rules that would define where my icons should be.

In the absence of anything useful, I've spent the time to manually move all the icons - but I now realise that I only have about 50-75% of the number I had!

Hello,

If those missing icons available inside your physical Desktop folder, but, it do not show up in your desktop area. Try looking for them in other Fences desktop pages or you can disable Desktop page and see if all the missing icons return to your main desktop area.

That or you were using Fences Folder Portals that pointed to other locations other than the Desktop.
