GroupyCtrl.exe using high CPU

Hi I've noticed a high CPU usage in the GroupyCtrl.exe which was causing my PC to lag. I'm running the latest Windows 10 v2004 OS Build 19041.388 and the latest version of Groupy. GroupyCtrl.exe is v1.3.10 dated 27/01/2020.

Is there an update for this issue please?

That is most unusual. How much cpu is the process apparently using?

The first thing to try may be to uninstall Groupy, reboot and then download and install the 1.37 beta version thats available from My Downloads in your account.

Having the same problem. This started recently. It's sporadic. Only solution is to reboot.

I have the same version of windows.

Groupy is using 11.3% CPU usage steady right now as I look at it.

By contrast

Firefox is using 0.6% cpu usage

Display Fusion is using 0.5% cpu

and the other 8 programs/services using ANY cpu are all below 1%

I was going to reboot, however, when I did that I cancelled it because I have Macrium Reflect and I forgot that NOW is backup time.

Oddly enough, Macrium Reflect is running a backup and it's cpu usage has spike to 3%-4%, this is where I would expect groupy to be all the time-11% cpu usage is rather high-since I have attempted reboot though, groupy has dropped to 3.5%-then within 2 minutes or so down to under 1%

Groupy seems to be remaining under 1% after the reboot attempt which also stopped display fusion and Actual windows roll-up, two programs that with recent versions have conflicts with recent versions of groupy - I am not sure which programs are NOT playing nice with each other, but I DO know if I installed older versions of all of them they all work just fine together.

Of course each developer blames the other two, but that's just case of ALL three not wanting to spend the time/money finding out if it is REALLY their app causing the issue.

IF anyone of the developers was actually concerned they would simply purchase the other two programs and setup a test PC and debug, debug, debug. I have given up on that actually happening though, so using old versions works for me.

Eventually Windows 10 will implement tabs and a rollup button and then I can decided which features the 3 external programs give and which one I'd like to keep. Probably display fusion as it is the only one that seems to do the task bars the way I like them with included functionality that manipulates the desktop backgrounds in really cool ways.

Either way, my issue seems to be resolved by clicking reboot and then killing the reboot task.

So, MAYBE next time I kill all three programs from task manager then explorer itself and restart them - I could write a batch or script to do it I suppose.

Basj my patience ran out a long time ago, that's why I am using old versions instead of beating my head against the wall trying to get 2 separate competing companies to figure out why their apps cause weird issues on my PC.

I say "2 separate companies" because quite frankly Display Fusion works just fine with either Groupy OR Actual Windows Manager in more recent versions and also works just fine with both when running older versions. The actual problems that arise with more recent versions seem to be between Groupy and Actual Windows Manager. At least that's what my troubleshooting has revealed to me.

So, my patience with Stardock and Actual Windows Manager on this one subject ran out a LONG time ago.

I DO appreciate you have to be polite and say things like "thank you for your patience" as you are a Star Dock representative and that's just good support team practice. I know because I am part of a technical support team - I support 180 users at one site - I am the only OSS engineer onsite, so yes, I actually KNOW what I am doing.

I posted this reply just so Star Dock would know I am seriously not impressed and will drop them as soon as I get a viable alternative ... OR I will drop Windows Actual Roll-up as soon as I get a viable alternative...or I will drop BOTH as soon as I get viable alternatives.....I think you see my point.

What was the response you received when you reached out to the author of Actual Windows Manager?

I installed the trial for AWM and tested it with Gropy 1.47 (the current beta). While it will spike in the low single digits when grouping (then decend rapidly after), I could not get it anywhere near what you posted on my 4 core PC.

High - the CPU usage thing seems to be new (?) I just noticed it because I was reading this thread and opened my task manager to see what groupy was doing "at the moment". I had just woken the PC from sleep and when I checked task manager it was approx. 3-4 minutes after waking from sleep. The high CPU use is something I can deal with because it only seems to happen after waking from sleep and restart Groupy and explorer.exe seems to resolve it. Honestly if I hadn't been reading the thread I may not even have noticed and Groupy may have lowered its CPU usage on it's own(?).

As I said in a previous reply, I have all 3 programs working together; 2 are older versions - Groupy and Actual WIndows Rollup. Display Fusion just seems to work.

Actual Windows Rollup said the same as Stardock - the problem with half the window being above my windows view port could not be reproduced.

I posted in that forum that I traced the issue to Actual Windows Roll-up, I have since learned that is not true. The issue only happens when BOTH programs are installed. So I assume that one of them is causing this or both of them are causing this.
