Here are two "exotic" (and sporadic) bugs that the support could not reproduce in several attempts. Since those occur over several versions of Fences (even v1), several new installations on several systems and even Windows re-installations, it is nearly sure that they are problems of Fences itself. Maybe someone has the time to test them out and bring the missing link to reproduce them or even a solution.
Bugs:
01. Hide link arrows: There is the function in Fences to hide the small arrow overlay icons Windows does for links to files and folders. By default, two out of four are activated and i keep it that way (also i tested any other combination). Since Windows 8 and now 8.1 and even 8.1 "Update", there has been a bug with the display of those arrows that seems to occur only when Fences is installed. And knowing of the function mentioned above seems to prove it could be a bug. The problem itself is, that every now and then, ALL arrows are missing until one does refresh the view (context menu or "F5"). Espoecially after a reboot, but also many times when just working on a system. Doing a refresh shows the arrows again (except the hidden ones of course) and the stay until they are lost again by some unknown cause. Can someone reproduce this?
02. Wrong double marking: This on is REALLY hard to reproduce since it seem to happen only sporadic/by chance. For example, when in do a link from a browser to a webpage by dragging and dropping it to the desktop from the open browser window (i have two screens so i just drag it to the second while the browser is maximized) and then minimizing the browser, that icon is marked as if clicked once and has focus. When i now click on any OTHER icon on the desktop, hold the button and move it, in 6 out of 10 cases the other symbol is moved also. It seem that there is a problem with the handling of focus and windows/desktop in any form. I have seen threads here that seem to mean the same problem but describing it in another way. Anyone seen anything like this?
Addendum: Please see added examples in post 2 and 6!
Addendum: Maybe this also has do to if someone has enabled the selection box feature available in the newer Windows versions so you can check the checkboxes to mark several item instead of holding STRG or Shift to do so. There could be a context here since this is deactivated by default and most users leave it this way but i use it. I was not able so far to check it.
03. Desktop loading time: While doing several advised tests with the new 2.13 version, i found out by chance that the problem with extended desktop loading times i thought that ObjectDock is causing is instead caused by Fences. I also found a few posts on the forums that seem to describe this also. As of this moment, this is uncertain.
After further and more complex investigations i came to the conclusion that this most likely is caused by Windows 8/8.1 and its way of booting and starting the system and how it gives feedback about its state to the user. Quit not absolutely sure but closer than the other guess.
