From your point of view you're saying Win8 and Win7 are basically the same. Why pay twice for something you already have ? 

It's far more different than Vista to 7 in features added and interface, yet far more familiar than XP to Vista.

Why does anyone ever upgrade their Windows OS?  They all do mostly the same things in different ways...until now.

I can respect people not liking the start screen, because hey it is different.  Hell, we still have tons of people around here sticking with XP for heaven only knows what reason.

But arguing that it has no new worthwhile features is silly.

The source/my little bird?  A person I spoke with at Microsoft Sydney when I rang about a purchasing issue.  Besides, you only have to look for yourself to see how rapidly technology is changing, and that the time between Windows releases is growing shorter with each release.  It stands to reason, then, that Microsoft would want to trim its support sevices to relocate those resources to more productive tasks, so yeah, the more redundant OSes will go first, XP and Vista, then Win 7 in perhaps 2 or 3 years time.

When somebody comes up with this kind of thing so late in the scheme of things, it's fair to suggest that they have very recently given it a short try, cast it aside and then started pissing and moaning because their expectations weren't fulfilled.  Moreover, the people who have really give Win 8 a fair try happen to like it, so it's fair to assume little or no experience with it... or, "fuck it, I'm crabby and can't be bothered trying to learn a new OS."  Either way, it's like a 747 after landing... the whining can go on for ages afterwards.

XP survived supported for a decade.  7 will likely do the same....so 2015 is pure bull.

The only reason I'll be loading 8 is to keep up to speed with SD's stuff....no other reason what-so-ever.

Never said you should...what bothers me isn't the people who don't feel like paying to upgrade (or have too much incompatible software), but the people who bash W8 for being inferior to windows 7....

I'd also point out that for many, W8 pro cost only $15....additionally, many new computers either come with W8 by default or offer it as an option...for those people who got it on a new computer (or were able to try it for free) and are complaining that it's inferior to windows 7, I seriously question their evaluation and willingness to learn new things....

see, even people that like Windows 8 say "you have to give it a fair chance", "you are not allowed to an opinion if you did not try it for at least x weeks/months" (x is always bigger than the amount of time somebody, who does not like it, spent with it).

i don't remember people this saying this about Windows XP, Windows 7, OS X, iOS etc. 

actually it means the Windows 8 UX design team has fucked it up big time. it doesn't really matter for desktops as MS has a quasi-monopoly here. but for tablets it is MS that can not afford such a long time to like it. the return policies do not permit that. the result are very high return rates of the Surface as mentioned in this article.

It's obvious from the title of the thread that this is nothing but troll bait. Astonished at some of the people that bit.

Everything that needed to be said on Win8 was beat to death on another thread that lasted quite some time. This one is just re-hash.

i expect that if you upgrade or install windows8 and take the time to install all additional software you have,  that you at least use it for a timespan of a week... The sad thing about it is that the explanation to a new interface is almost completely missing the little tutorial that is displayed during or after the installation is just way to short ( i say it’s the reason why many say its unusable or hard to overcome i mentioned this before there should have been better tutorials from the very get go DP to RTM that explain exactly how you navigate use it and operate with hotkeys ) all of that good stuff is missing therefore i understand that many are pissed of.
windows xp was not done overnight and people already had been adjusted to the input and the UI since there was 95 and 98 enough time to get familiar with certain things and can’t be compared to a true new UI that hasn’t been there before in any version of desktop environment unless you had the benefit of MSDN account, but many just saw the CP and RTM and those were pretty much unexplained therefore so many videos about windows8 is horrible bla bla bla you get the point.

I used a surface RT and im also frustrated that some applications do not continue to work if you switch to another app to break down the time everything is loaded up but these things can only be changed and made better if they get reported... nobody reports anything to MS I’ve tried contacting them a couple of times and got redirected to Microsoft ask a question where you have to pay 60 euros to get a problem solved but all i wanted was to give them additional tips/feedback of what can be made better or be improved within windows8.There is a ton of things that could be changed and make windows8 to a real precious OS.

Multi virtual screen support the ability to lock metro apps ( multiple to the desktop ) improvements in autostart ,search functions could be redefined and made closer so that you could make a search for text inlcuded in a file (index)search without having to search via the explorer...expanding look split screen on one monitor ( windowskey +and direction key left/ right having these as multiple lock downs would be cool at least more than just the two via monitor with a option to go full screen and the ability to use it that way without using the windows sidebar to switch through them.The metro app on desktop could be multiple also with a scrollbar to scroll to the needed stuff…/ Still testing Tiles since i had a chat with ZubaZ yesterday and Tiles seem to do exactly what i wish windows8 would do.. the list goes on.

Even though I like and enjoy working with windows8 i think its not perfect and can be should be improved to match both sides standards in future release … Plate8 was simply to early released especially since there is no user tutorial from MS that explains all of it.
The list of ideas for improvements is huge but hey it’s a complete new OS and it’s not very old yet -But i hate that there is no decent way to provide ideas or tips to MS. What im trying to say here is that most people that hate on it never actually mention what they don’t like unless the three things Startbutton UI and looks. So should MS change the UI back to have one part of the party happy and upset all the guys that like the change of the  jump of an more Entertainment based and live app OS that covers a good part of information under one hood like it does currently with the live tiles  ? Even i think that an option would have been dandy to have both parts happy/ lets face it we all are one windows family and should not fight over a user interface its redicoulous lol ive seen pc console game, fights over apple and PC´s but fights over windows between windows users is new for me in that scale especially because it makes no sense at all. But if we want changes we need to report things we do n0t like in a mannered way and not like it sux or its shit nobody can read about that whats going on.Its like a little kid stomping its feet in the mall screaming because it is not getting the toy it wants but accomplishes nothing.IF you want a future improvement you have to open your mouth and try to contact MS in a large way petition as an example but we have to make it as one so both sides get happy in the end the ones that like a startbutton and startmenu and the ones that like a windows key and live startmenu its that simple fighting doesnt help until that is understood there will be no improvement and only one way the way microsoft thinks is right for the future to take.

MS Office 2013 Pro does actually make use of some of the connectivity-always-first principles Win8/RT is built around.  For instance it absolutely rocks with basic SkyDrive integration but it also brings SkyDrive Pro to the table should you wish/need to make use of it.

it has cloud integration. that's fine. if it would be Google Drive instead of SkyDrive it would still have nothing to do with Android or ChromeOS.
