Quoting starkers, reply 22Are you trying to put words into my mouth? Large company = Microsoft? Yes, Microsoft is a large company, but I did not name it as being the instigator of this trend, did I?
you did.
Quoting starkers, reply 14Yeah, I'll drink to that. Sadly, since MS went with the flat, lacklustre everything, many other companies have followed suit and have pretty much ruined logos, icons, GUIs... much of what we see on our screens.
i apologize if you were referring to Morgan Stanley here
Connecting the dots, are we? That was two different posts, and while related topic-wise, they were unrelated n my head. Had I been thinking Microsoft in the second post I would have named it in the key sentence.
I therefore refer you to this statement....
My point was that somebody high up the food chain usually/nearly always decides what the rest of we peons want to wear, hear, see, smell, taste.... and like sheep, the majority of the human race has or covets it.
The company could be Apple, it could be Samsung, or even Google.... shoot, it could even be Microsoft, but the point remains, they all want to shape our purchasing needs/habits toward their products.... and by making it fashionable they can even make you want them if you'd ordinarily hate the sight of it... why.?.. to keep up with the f**king Joneses... to be recognised and/or embraced by the in-crowd. Geez, I hate that sort of shit.
Yes, I'm a cynical, obstinate old bastard, and some might say "f**ked in the head", but it's still my head and my mind's my own. For instance, I wasn't one of the mindless twerps who queued up outside Apple showrooms for days ahead of the iPhone 5 release....and not because they needed one, either... but off the back of a slick advertising campaign that made it oh so glamorous and a must, must have. Mindless sheep!
