RightClick'ing again.

Well, not really 'sneak previews', just showing off what I'm tinckering with.

You might know some of'em.
And more in the workings... These are just the result of some 4 hours of work.

I've set up an extra PC running Windows XP, purely for skinning RightClick again. That's dedication, ay? (Shakes fist at Stardock)
I might even take up skinning WB again (XP only) IF I can get hold of an older version of SKS, v5 perhaps.
The one on the old SDC (SKS 6) just won't play nice.

The $64,000 question here is, just how much development would it take to make RC compatible with Win 7 x64? Cos essentially that's all anyone is asking, to get it 64 bit ready in Win 7 and 8... no more, no less. Updates after that??? If they were offered, yes, but first and foremost, a working version and bugger the updates if it's too much trouble. So long as the proggie works, who gives a rat's....

And in Win 8, yeah, it's more needed there than in 7, given the GUI elements MS neglected to include.

How's about this, ZubaZ, for a possible solution:

Fix RightClick up so it works with 64bit systems - and that's it....

As for distribution it -could- be an unsupported application. Just plaster the download page with a humongous sticker saying

NO SUPPORT AVAILABLE

and direct users here, to the Wincustomize forum. There are plenty of people here willing to offer help and assistance - for free.

As for pricing?

Would 10, 15 or even 20 bucks be a fair/too high price for an unsupported application?
Personally I wouldn't give it a second thought hurling 50 bucks your way for a working RightClick.

(Would be awesome hearing Brads take on this....)

if so, i'd try installing the old MS Visual C++ 32-bit runtimes before (2005, 2008 and 2010) before installing Right-Click.

(that's how i got Litestep 0.25 running on Windows 7 SP1 64-bit yesterday )

I had it running on Vista X64 up untill I got a new machine w/Windows 7 back in April.

Only "hitch" is that you have to double right click for the RightCLick menu to show up. Other than that - runs perfect.
If only just that was possible on Windows 7 as well, you wouldn't hear a peep out of me on this matter ever again.

Not that I can recall. Only that a new and better applications was in developement - turned out to be Tiles.

It installs, yes, but it nukes Explorer when right clicking.

Have tried every possible compatibility mode without luck.

Not sure but you used to be able in XP to be able to replace the rightclick menu.

So you could add what you wanted way more features they I can mention

Ive herd see further up the treed that this program works on win7X32 by right-clicking twice.

X64 only.
RightClick works fine on 32-bit.

Well, I'll be darned.... Why didn't I think that sooner.
RightClick does have a hotkey activator, and... blimey if it doesn't work that way. No more Explorer craches.
Had to reinstall RightClick to test this, and now it's staying! Woohoo!

Now I just have to figure out a way to keep the skinning tool from crashing.
Not a big issue though. Got the XP box with RightClick installed as well.

Snowman is a happier RightClick camper now!

i'd rather have a "layer" over the desktop that supports customizable mouse actions.

like a Rainmeter skin with the dimensions of your desktop and a setting of ImageAlpha=1 (almost completely transparent, not visible for the human eye) with Position set to bottom.

or LiteStep running as a service with jDesk as the only module (though then you could use xPopup as a second module, which is far better than RightClick).

then have AutoIt execute the hotkey on a right mouse click event.

Sounds very simple but....it's not...
Not for coding-gimps like me.
Adding a multi monitor setup to the equation doesn't simplfy the process....

I'll just settle for the hotkey for now, unless someone volunteers to make such a Rainmeter.

seems you are not looking for the functionality then, but for an excuse to spend your time doing cut and paste skins for this abandonware. i hope i am wrong though. so i'll volunteer.

Rainmeter is not like the mediocre software you are used to. multiple monitors are no problem. it also comes with proper documentation.

I don't get whats not working about it

Win 7 64-bit. Not using a hotkey to launch. I can Right Click my butt off all day if I want. No crashes anywhere.

The only thing that bugs me is I can never get the 'Use the windowblinds skin' option to work right. After I install the proggie, this option only works once. When I change my blind, I cannot match in RC.

i am pretty sure that is because you got the MS Visual C++ 32-bit runtimes or other runtimes that this thing depends on installed.

Snow...recently I had a system that couldn't use the converter for works docs into word/office docs.... the attempt kept on bombing out to 'you need a newer converter'....which was bogus.....

What ended up being needed was a DL from MS with the name 'vcredist_x86.exe' ....yep, one of them...

Close but no cigar.
Downloaded and installed a shitload of C++ runtimes but little did it help. All I got was a lot of new files....

I was unable to find the 'ATL update kb973923' listed on yours.
