Unable to create fence

I am running on a Windows 7 (64 bit) machine and I installed Fences. When I went to create a fence by right dragging I did not receive the message asking me to create a fence.

I then uninstalled and reinstalled and allowed the software to create 6 fences. I was still unable to create additional fences.

I then went back to another computer and exported the registry settings and then imported them back into my new system. I now had 12 fences. I could not, however, create any new fences.

Please note - Fences was not locked.

What is preventing the creation of a new fence?

It's possible security software is interfering somehow. Also, do you have any other software that might be hooking into explorer.exe, or doing other system-changing-type things?

I have some software that makes use of the right click. I also use Windows tabs which I am pretty sur eis hooked into Explorer.

Both of these, however, are on my old machine also.

For troubleshooting purposes, does disabling those help at all?

I may have found the source of the problem. Norton found a trojan and removed it. Functionality appears to have returned. I will try creating a fence tomorrow to insure that the problem has been resolved.

If your software was downloaded directly from the store or via sdc, the trojan wouldn't be in the Fences program. If you meant it was on your machine, then that's a different matter...

If Norton reported it being in Fences, which file did it consider a trojan... and why wouldn't it have triggered the problem sooner?

From the sounds of it, the trojan was not in Fences, just blocking it.

It wasn't in Fences. Norton merely said it quaranteed the file. Could be coincidental that it was found after I installed Malwarebytes and it found potential problems. I will try for the next few days to insure that a fence can be created. Again, thanks to all who responded.
