Icon Packager

File name too long

Can anyone tell me the proper path to the icon themes on Win7? I cannot install new packages because I keep getting "file name too long" error message. This is the path to where they are at current: C:\ProgramData\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Application Data\Documents\Stardock\IconPackager

How would I go about fixing this? [e digicons]:')[/e]

I don't have Windows 7 (Vista Ultimate 64 bit) but all those sub-folders named "Application Data" doesn't sound right.

Do all hhose directories exist?

Is the anything in any of them? What method did you use to install IP (if that is the only thing in the directories)?

So, if I drag and drop the package in this folder, icon packager sees it and I can use it. Do not know why that other directory exists but there is lots of stuff with that horrid long string of application data. I think it was created when I had to do a repair install and I do not know how to straighten it all out. I uninstalled Icon packager before ditching Impulse and installed it from the store.

I'm not sure how all that happened. Usually, icon packages auto install. If they come zipped, you can unzip, then double click the icon package to install.

no thanks! I do not need to purchase a tool! I do not want to delete the files, just want to restore them to the proper location without the additional Application data paths. So my question would be, what is the proper path to C:\program data/application data\stardock\iconpackager and what do others have in that folder?

If I download with Firefox, I get a zip on my desktop, which is where I choose to download, after unzipping, when I click on the iconpackager file, iconpackager opens and the package is there but there is no preview and I cannot apply it. However. if I drag and drop the whole folder into C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\IconPackager then the package works as expected.

On Windows7/64 bit: C:\program data/application data\stardock\iconpackager does not exist. There is no application data folder inside program data.

C:\ProgramData\Stardock\IconPackager does exist and contains one file, sig.bin

The path: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Stardock\IconPackager also exists and contains 3 files:backup folders.ini, backup.ini, and file icons.ini

All installed themes are found in: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\IconPackager

I've been getting that also. Not only that, but when you close IP and relaunch it, the package is no longer in the list as installed.

I just open IP, click on Add Icon Package/Install from disk, then browse to the IP and install it. It seems to "stick" that way.

If I could get a couple more confirmations that there indeed is no application data folder inside of the program data folder, I will simply delete that whole folder after setting up a restore point and go from there. I know it was created when I did a repair install of Win7 64 bit and originally was in the Windows old folder. I think I moved it myself but cannot be sure. I do have the other folder with the sig.bin and nothing else.

I have also tried your install method and that does not stick for me either.

One more confirmation and I am set to delete the folder! I thought it strange that when I right click on it, select properties, there is nothing there.

I'll confirm again, Frankief....they shouldn't be there. Besides, if you are worried, make a restore point first, then delete them.

So, long story short, I deleted the folder, rebooted, ran JVC Powertools registry cleaner and so far have not noticed any adverse effects. I downloaded an Icon package and it installed as it should. That folder was just insane because when you opened it, along with everything else in there, there was yet another application data folder and when you opened it, it was a duplicate of the other and it just went on and on! Weird stuff indeed! Thank you all for you input!
