Well happy new year everyone. I thought I would get the ball rolling with a new screenshot post seeing how December 2010 has left us.
Here is a new take on Solid State thanks to a new texture I made tonight. I now know how to do them, YEAH! The start menu and taskbar in this shot are not transparent. It is a schematic texture.
Darn image load is being a pain...couldn't add text....gonna be yet another failing of IE9....
F-14 Tomcat 2D screen derived from existing model's 3D cockpit screen....as it didn't have one at all.The tricky bit [so far] was getting the Wing Sweep gauge to function realistically.... had to be coded from scratch. The graphics involved includes per-pixel modding.... drawing one pixel at a time. The coding is also that critical.Still heaps of glass effects [alpha channels] to add... to gauges and windows. The buildings outside are the carpark levels and Hilton Hotel at Melbourne Airport...as seen at 200 knots and 770 feet....
As 'wallpapers' go...it really doesn't work....as it's far too crowded and confusing.... but just like JuniorCrook's screenie in the OP....it has 'gauges' ....
If anyone's ever wondered...the Sysmetrix skin is a combination of treetog's "Antares" and my Seiko wristwatch...[those gauges work, too]....
That is So cool Jafo. I could never be a pilot, man.
[man?.. where the heck did that come from? man. ]
Jafo .. that screenshot is awesome. An F-14? One of my favorites. Do you have the F/A-18, F-15E, AV-8B Harrier ... I could go on and on ... lol.
My latest. Wall is called Scrapwood. Picked it up from DA. I actually made it a .theme from DrJBHL's post on how to make them.

'An F-14? One of my favorites. Do you have the F/A-18, F-15E, AV-8B Harrier "
Yes...all of those...and oodles more.
SOOO much stuff is available - Freeware and Payware.... there's so much around the Payware is seldom necessary at all....though the Alphasim/Virtavia F-105D is payware.
This 'Cat is a freebie...and from what I've seen of screenies...it's the best available....though all the gauges are modelled within the plane model file and do not exist separately...which means I have to source all the 'suitable' gauges in my Panel from elsewhere....or make them myself...
I once built a 1/32 scale model of an F/A-18 Hornet. Took the control panel and cut out the gauges and replaced them with clear plastic stock. Painted the dials on them, drilled out the lights and used fiber-optics to simulate them. Great fun but that was back when you could actually buy the model kits. Nowadays you couldn't touch one for less than a hundred bucks if you could find them at all.
Something just keeps bringing me back to Alluminate....
I've got one of a Tomcat. My favorite.
I was stationed at Miramar in 1982. Seemed like they did touch and go's 24/7. Noisy and distinctive.
A couple years ago I was standing in my front yard and heard one fly over. I told my wife that it was an F-14 and it sounded like it was landing at the local airport. The nearest NAS is Jacksonville so we don't get much military traffic. Come to find out, when the Navy retired them our Airport (DeLand) got one for a display.
If you've ever seen a SR-71 banking over the freeway at low altitude, it's a show stopper.
I saw SR 71's landing at Kadena AFB late 60's of course the US claimed they were not there.
I remember the SR-71 doing the cross-country run. Set a new speed record coast to coast. Here's a little something. When they first went into service in '66 there were models of them I bought. Back then there were two versions. The original was the YF12A. It was called a 'suborbital interceptor'. What was interesting is the stats listed on the instruction sheet. I never forgot them. Service ceiling in excess of 80,000 feet, top speed in excess of mach 2. Of course Uncle Sam played it down. I know now that those stats were the come on to sell the model. The SR-71 actually is capable of much more impressive numbers.
My take on Airframe
Honestly...an SR-71 at any altitude is a show stopper.
That beauty parked on a runway looks like it's doing mach warp speed.
Here is something I think is quite special using Vampothika new blind. Notice the cool sysmetrix skin I made. It's just a clock for now but I may add more after work.
You're rackin' 'em up JC. Love the Airframe. Cool clock too.
Bit of trivia: SR-71 uses it's jet fuel as hydraulic fluid. During flight the airframe compresses. On the ground it stretches out and the hydraulic fluid (jet fuel) leaks out. Normal for the plane. Also ... 75% of its fuel is used on take-off and in-flight re-fueling is a necessity. One more thing. Top speed at altitude exceeded mach 3. That's more than 2100 mph.
Thanks Uvah. The clock is a work in progress but I think it is coming along quite nicely. I will probably add a toggle button so I can toggle individual windows with different info.
Oops!
You cleaved the apple!!!
