Are there any advantages of having a high karma? If not, what's the point of the whole karma

@the OP: That earlier chocolate-as-crank line is one part of it; karma can mean nothing when you have none, but if somehow folks pile some on you and then you 'act the same' but go for a while without more karma, you think about karma and get irritated by confronting your own vanity. Also, I think the Elemental devs once used karma as one criterion for choosing a select group of beta volunteers for some NDA-covered testing.

Yes, that is part of the plan.  Karma will eventually be shared across all of the forums, and may even have a role to play elsewhere.

But karma will always just be a number next to your name, and that's it.  You won't get anything for having a lot of karma, or lose anything for having no karma.  Although it does make people feel good when they receive karma (yours truly included), so use it often
