I'm a big fan of Jorge. Winstep is pretty awesome and we've been friends for many years.
ObjectDock is much the same story. The original ObjectDock was done by Jeff on his own. ObjectDock 2 is coded by Jeff as well but largely in his spare time since his day job is to work on Impulse, Impulse::Reactor, and projects for the OEMs. So those things tend to crowd out time to work on ObjectDock.
The same goes for the other part of the equation -- the art assets. Stardock Design juggles working on projects with Dell, HP, Alienware and countless other partners along with our own internal stuff.
The biggest challenge though with ObjectDock 2 is how difficult and time consuming making some of the features work on Windows 7, 64-bit (and Vista 64) have been. To some users, they'll get ObjectDock 2 and be underwhelmed because they don't realize just how much time was spent bringing all the underlying frameworks up to date.
Now, regards to the "whining". On Object Desktop for Windows, the pre-order time on that was almost a year. On our current game project, Elemental, there are people who have been waiting since last October to get access to the beta.
If someone feels they have been mistreated or "done" then they should simply cancel their pre-order.
I do expect the beta to go out to the public in the next couple weeks.
