romance

following on from a question about romance raised by Elfkura, i thought i would persue this a little further.

watching humans, this romance game seems really rather strange.
first off there are the subtle, caring and inteligent stratergies employed by males to woo the women of their dreams
feline falls over laughing
 (nothing personal, i just dont have a high opinion of males )

then there are the equally confusing tactics used by women who end up surprised than men dont like being remolded into a new and more suitable form.

however, out off all of these confusing (unknown) rules, one question stands out. why why why why do otherwise inteligent caring and sensitive women seem so impressed that a male is caring and considerate when he presents her with flowers? basically he is demonstraiting that he is gentle and caring by ripping some pore and inocent being limb from limb.

maybe if someone can explain this, the whole thing would make more sence. and while we are at it, can anyone actually produce a definition of romance that both sides of my brain can understand at the same time?

Well we human males change dramatically after marriage and more so after the kids come along.

By the time we hit 30, we've discovered our "favorite chair" and that scratching actually technically counts as a hobby.

COOL!  Night of the living thread....return of the living thread...day of the living thread!  I've read the Zombie Survival Guide.  I know how to survive zombie attack.  Oh, and befitting this thread...most romantic zombie movie ever, was Return of the Living Dead 3.  Best series of zombie movies to watch consecutively after a bad romance that ended...the Re-Animator movies, Re-Animator, Bride of Re-Animator, and Beyond Re-Animator. (It helps if you have a bottle of Tequila to drink while watching these movies).

Yup.... VERY overrated!

My recollections of romance (geez, that was a long time ago): "Not tonight, I have a headache!"

Men indulge themselves in the idea of romance because they have an 'itch' to scratch.

Women, on the other hand, believe romance is purely for procreation and the survival of the species.

Hence, once the babies are born, women are adverse to the idea of a bit of slap n' tickle.

That's when men discover that fav armchair, sport on TV and "scratching"

It's called living together seperately because .... never the twain shall meet.

WTH?     Romance is NOT purely for procreation...it didn't start really getting good until I was incapable of procreating, and I'm not about to stop now. 


Romance is what makes all the crap in between worth it in the end.  Granted, one has to sort through a lot of ill-fitting matches before one finds the perfect fit, and even then there are days when some of us aren't even fit for our OWN company, but dang people....without my significant other, there'd be no reason for me to put up with all the junk going on in the world, and I'd be out on the streets inciting anarchy!

Romance in a relationship is more like mutual respect.  IMHO.  Like physical passion, it may lessen somewhat with the passage of time, but romance and a deep friendship remain as vibrant and vital parts as long as their is love between a couple.

Right on, Ed.  I don't know why some people seem to think that romance is purely sexual and/or affectionate, to me it is about being everything you can be for that special person in your life.

To me, romance is an appreciation for the sacrifice the other person has made by choosing to share all aspects of their significant other...not just the fun/happy times.  It's this attitude of appreciation that opens up the intimacy to allow for other things.

It's not luck...it's skill.  He's impeccably good at convincing me he believes I'm totally hot, have no physical flaws, haven't aged a day since we met, and that I'm utterly fascinating as an individual.  Both of us know that's not the truth, but he's never wavers from selling me that story.

At our age when my wife gets out of the shower and says "does my ass look big" I say no honey , but it really could use an ironing.  I need an eye exam now that they are swollen almost shut.    I've never told her why she can't use the special tape measure in the bedroom to make curtains.  I don't let her watch porn films either.  After all, romance is mystery.

Romance means to have a candle light dinner, get  some  kisses  and  hugs from  someone, who is not recognised your wife as yet and perhaps won't be ever to the best of your knowledge at the time of dinner.

Nah, seriously, Shaunna and I were great friends before we became anything else to each other, and that friendship exists today as strong as, if not stronger than it ever was... it's what binds us together through both the good AND not so good times.

Feline, While you're figuring this out I'll give you the other side of the story and maybe you can help ME figure this out. Last year on Valentine's day I sent my girlfriend flowers with a card on them that said, "One for each month of the year that I Love you", I called and left a message on HER cell phone that said something like, "Just wanted you to know that I Love you and Your the love of my life and I'm thinking about you today!" THEN asked her to dinner where we had our first dinner out when we first started dating. She seemed quiet....maybe angry, I asked her what was on HER mind. She said, "Well, I'm really disappointed in you for not getting me a CARD". She said she didn't think I put very much EFFORT into Valentines day so her take was that I didn't CARE enough.

 Explain that and I'll go along with your basic implication that WOMEN are the only VICTIMS on Valentines day. Sorry, but to imply that women are the only one's short changed on Valentines day is not logical or rational. I agree that people can be mistreated but it's not JUST Women.   RAD
