ObjectDock already works with Windows 7, albeit with many bugs (see corresponding Bugs thread). It's not even 64-bit certified, i.e. Windows XP/Vista 64-bit aren't mentioned on System requirements page. Please also bear in mind that Windows 7 is not yet available in the retail channel, though it will be this Thursday, 22nd.

Those aren't exactly small potatoes! Start menu is a big deal and Sys Tray is essential, otherwise taskbar cannot be hidden, which reduces the overall usefulness of OD by a lot.

I'll install Win7 today and all my docks are by OD, including sys tray.

yes it is a scandal that objectdock doesnt work correctly on win 7, I just bough it to be smart, I regret it , i should have pirate it , at least i would have save 20 bucks

 

to put new icons on the bar U have to do the borring procedure of going through the add and new shortcut menu , crap !!!

 

I t doesnt even start with win 7 U have to do it manualy double crap !!!

 

the start button doesnt work neither triple crap !!!

give me my money back ...

One shouldn't have to resolve to those "workarounds". Stardock need to fix their software so it's compatible, period.

Let's please not try to make excuses for ObjectDock/Stardock. Granted, it is a good piece of software when it has no incompatibility issues or bugs. Currently, if a person buys OD+ to use on a Win 7 machine then I cannot say that they are making a good investment, even less so if they'll be deploying it to a 64-bit PC. Over the course of the past 2 1/2 years the value of that $20 has been degrading, because OD+ has not kept pace with the times. I'll be upgrading my Win 7 32-bit to 64-bit and I'm not looking forward to how OD+ is going to behave.

Windows 7 has been in the distribution channels to Microsoft partners for over a year (so much for that Gold Partner certification, eh?), yet none of Stardock products, let alone OD+, have passed "Compatible with Windows 7" logo program. It is very unfortunate that SD has dug itself into such a hole. I am no longer confident in their ability to deliver bug-free products, keep them updated and keep their customers abreast of issues and development timelines.

I ran Win7 x64 RC for months and had not one single issue with OD+.... in fact I have the entire ObjectDesktop suite and never had a single issue. I have come to realize that 99% of the time the user is the issue, not the proggie........

Apparently you missed the posts about various Stardock apps (such as MyColors) getting the Windows 7 logo.

There is no point getting the logo on WB7 and DS3 until we release the final versions.

As a start menu replacement, OD+ is currently useless on W7 64bit (or any other 64 bit OS really).

It's still a good tabbed application launcher.

It does look bad that after more than a year, the dock STILL comes with broken docklets though... I can't figure out why the weather docklet is still included in its broken state. I mean, it can hardly be a major undertaking to repackage the installation with atleast THAT fixed?

I am glad that you had no issues whatsoever. I hope the same will be for me after this weekend. However, a lot of people on the forums have had quite the opposite experience. I don't think it is the users' issue, otherwise what was the point of "workarounds" being posted? In addition, Stardock has not mentioned on the "System Requirements" tab for OD that Win 7 and 64-bit are acceptable. This can only mean that *OFFICIALLY* they are not accepted and not supported.

P.S. How do you handle a situation where you have taskbar apps showing in a dock and you close one of them, but it remains in taskbar, such as Windows Live Messenger? OD+ doesn't fully incorporate capabilities of Win 7's taskbar -- that is an issue.

Was ObjectDock mentioned in the list of those Stardock apps? I appreciate that there is no point getting the logo until the final version is ready for release, but quite a few companies whose software is far more complex than OD have released Win7-compatible versions, some ahead of the retail launch that happened last week. Last time I've seen anything official posted about OD 2.0 was 3 months ago (https://www.wincustomize.com/articles.aspx?aid=360297). Win 7 RTMed by then, yet not a peep since.

Exactly! How are OD+ users overriding sys tray not non working on Win 7. I don't care for Win7 dock but I can't hide it since sys tray is too important.

I have Object Dock working on my new Win 7 64-bit installation, but the dock won't accept the Windows "Snipping Tool" utility.  It can't find the .exe when you use the browser within Object Dock, although the .exe is right there in the designated folder when you look via "My Computer."   The utility worked fine on Win 7 32 bit.

Got the answer (to why Snipping Tool won't work in OD on a Win 7 64-bit machine), and a workaround, from another forum.  The 32-bit application Object Dock can't access 64-bit programs.  The fix is to substitute "Sysnative" for System32" in the link the Dock is looking for:  "C:\Windows\System32\SnippingTool.exe"  becomes  "C:\Windows\Sysnative\SnippingTool.exe" and it works fine!
