I'm repsecting the honesty in the judging. I may not agree on some aspects but that's solely due to the fact that individuals are different. I would be lying if I said that I was not disappointed by the verdict on my skin. Critique is part and parcel of this game and I've learned to accept it and hopefully grown from it. Who likes hearing negativity about their work anyway?
The above sums up my thoughts exactly , although I have a few points I would like to raise. When I first saw my overall score (1) depression set in and I thought if I am that bad I had better think seriously whether it is worth me continuing to upload blinds to Wincustomize, I would not give up skinning as it has become a big part of my life & is very therapeutic for me.
But on reading through the comments again on mine & other skins I realized that the two main points of what was wrong with mine were the colours & the art design. Well, I am colour blind, so there is nothing I can do about that, (I am not using this as an excuse, it is a fact) & art design is subjective anyway, & it would be a dull world if we all thought the same.
So apart from getting the default Vista wrong, (I did skin Xp first & added a Vista subsection to it, but did not set it as default, you can always learn in this game) technically my skin must have been OK. I have been skinning for a just over a year now, & have not downloaded many skins in that time as I have a fear of inadvertently copying other peoples ideas, but I have been a member of the site since 2005 & downloaded a lot of blinds that were not technically correct & I was not able use.
The other point Brad made was that WindowBlinds & SkinStudio give an author a lot of rope to hang themselves with & that I would have benefited from less rope, which is probably right, but as I was entering a competition run by Stardock, I thought I should make an entry that showed off all that their great software can do. (Beside the fact is I enjoy producing all the bells & whistles I can).
I did not enter this competition thinking I would be a front runner, I entered to support a great Site & Company, but I do feel that making a blind that has, according to Brad, "some great ideas", is technically sound is worth more than one point, after all what use is a blind that has great art & colours that will not run properly on your computer.
