Customization is what we’re all about here, right? With Stardock’s SoundPackager you can customize the sounds for system events, and put together your own and supports 7, Vista, XP and Server 2003.

There are folks who prefer unobtrusive sounds played continuously on the system. A sound theme unrelated to system events.

Atmosphere Lite is free, and provides a large amount of ‘themes’ from which you can choose and really modify (there are more than 50 in the Atmosphere Deluxe paid for version). It is compatible with W7 32 and 64 bit OSs.

As you can see in the version comparison below, there are a host of ways to modify your choice of Theme, sub-theme and sounds to add to that theme with ways to vary volume, random changes and even visual options like colors, and even have a slide show option. It also has a clock which can turn the theme on and off  when you specify (the clock syncs with your system clock). You can create special themes for various times and save them, reloading them when you wish. The free version is far less customizable than the Deluxe one, still, it has nice sound schemes. You can always try the DeLuxe version for 21 days and then comparison shop.

So, if you like nature sounds and like to work (or do your art) to them, this is a really nice free program. Give it a shot.

There is another free program out there called Sound Valley which is free but offers far fewer customizations and themes. If you wish to compare, it can be found here: http://www.gromworks.net/downloads/

As always, before installing ANYTHING on your computer:

1. Do your own research about the software.

2. Determine your need.

3. Create a restore point in case anything goes wrong during the installation.

4. If you haven’t done a backup within the past week, do one. It’s painless and saves quite a bit of regret.

5. Always choose "Custom" or "Advanced" installation if offered. That will allow you to view whether the software comes in a wrapper with toolbars, home page and search engine switchers or other software/Adware you might not want.
