For folks in the path of Sandy and for those concerned about them Google has launched its Crisis map.

You can find it here:  http://google.org/crisismap/2012-sandy

It’s built on the base of Google Maps, but has a ton of info and additional deeper menus in the right side bar.

Hope all in the affected areas are doing what they should, and are safe.

Google… good for you on this one!

Haven't heard a peep, Don. There were mandatory evacuations ordered in Philadelphia, and I'm sure there are power outages... he might be affected by either or both.

Tried calling Giz, but got errors...

This is my second go at this thread. Internet is intermittent, beeon off and on since before we lost power. Power was out for 21 hours, 8 last night untill 5 this afternoon. I saw several reports on yahoo news. Southern part of Queens NY got hammered as did Atlantic City, Manhattan, Staten Island. There was a video showing water gushing out of an elevator shaft at a subway station.

http://news.yahoo.com/sandys-death-toll-climbs-millions-without-power-155442547--finance.html

There are some pics at the link. Notice the yard full of yellow cabs, all practically submerged. There were pics pf a flooded Queens neighborhood where a six-alarm fire destroyed between 80 to 100 homes. Like one big war zone.

Where I'm at in West Chester we got lucky. I think Sandy side-swiped us. Some rain and wind but not a lot plus a gust or two. Most of the damage occurred Northeast of us. The bride I gave away.........she and her husband rode out the storm with me. It started out as a birthday dinner, two racks of ribs! from the local food cupboard, for a friend that turned into a 'hurry up and wait to see what Sandy does' type thing. They'll be leaving tomorrow. Oh.....and I lost none of the food in my fridge or freezer, I only had to toss the dairy products All in all......we made it. Hope everyone else did.

Haven't heard from Giz, but from what I see, some 40,000 homes are without electricity and he might have been in a mandatory evacuation zone...

What part does Web live in? Some zones were only partially evacuated. Gonna go look for more.

Found some early videos. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/superstorm-sandy-wrath-caught-video-123034167.html

I figure his electricity and phone service are wacked, or he'd find a way to get back to us.

Good news! Just got Giz on the phone. He's without power and might not have any for 2-5 days, but he's ok... just without heat and refrigeration. He had the bad luck to be between 2 areas with power. Lots of trees are down, which is the reason his area is without.

That's good news about Giz, that he's safe and well... hopefully his power will be back on soon.

I'm glad to see you're okay, Ross.  I was worried about you, knowing you were in the vicinity and had not long gotten all set up, but I'm relieved that you only lost power for a while and not a lot more.

As for everyone else, WC members [some I know and others I don't] and all who were in Sandy's path, here's hoping you were not too badly affected and that your lives can go back to normal sooner rather than later.

Don't think anyone missed me but just in case wanted to let you all know i'm fine and back on. I live in southern New Jersey so don't think i have to say anymore. Other then a couple minor repairs my home is fine. Lost a small place I had on the coast as it got picked up, broken up and washed away and the area where it was is no more. Insurance didn't cover it so the town can have the land or should I say the 10 foot of sand that is now covering the area. Owned it with three other men and really haven't used it but a very few times since my wife passed. All is well and again I'm fine.

Hey guys! Thanks for thinking about me. Got power back around 9:20PM Thursday night. The storm went through here like a freight train...lots of downed trees...smashed cars and homes...power lines down everywhere. They estimated around 269,000 were without power but mostly everyone is back on the grid. They still say that some 50,000 will be without power for anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks...mostly out in the country side areas.

And now they say we has a nor easter on the way that could cause more problems. This time I ordered a propane heater just in case. This last time it was just candles for heat and a radio. Went bonkers not being able to get on here...who the hell said silence was golden...my ears were ringing from the silence!

The storm coming is weak compared to Sandy. Mostly rain and high winds, like rubbing salt into a wound. Too early to tell yet but when there's an image posted I'll put it up here.

Quoting DrJBHL,
Great to see you back, bud.

Thank you so much sir...

Quoting DrJBHL,
Hope that noreaster doesn't materialize.

I know right, but I have a question. How is it that European forecasters are predicting the weather better than our own NWS (National Weather Service).

They were dead on about Sandy and they our calling for the Nor'easter...?
