Due to the fact that some of my favorite extensions will not work on Firefox 10 I am still using Firefox 3.6.26. I've noticed that Firefox is getting slower and slower and I need help figuring out why. It can't be my computer as it has more than enough RAM at 2 GB of DDR3. Perhaps it is a memory leak or a rogue extension?

I am running the following extensions:

AdBlock Plus

Element Hiding Helper For AdBlock Plus

Facebook Zoom

IE Tab V2

Is It Compatible?

Java Console 6.0.30

Middle Click To Go Back

Reload Tab On Double Click

WeatherBug

WebMail Ad Blocker

Thanks in advance. At this point IE is quicker and usually Firefox is the quickest browser on my setup.

Still running firefox 3.6.13, that is when i do use it. It went drastically down hill from then on.. I will not even try the latest version. I just freezes my comp.

Mostly use Chrome now.

Perhaps I should revert to version 3.6.12. I had the best success with that version. I wonder if version 10 is faster and more stable.

Give 10 a go, if a extension only works with 3.6 then it hasn't been updated of late (is it worth not upgrading your browser) or have a go with palemoon 3.6.29 ... should run all of 3.6 addons

I'm using 3.6.25, and like others will never move to the new releases. I was using IE Tab but found it was the cause of my memory leaks, so i booted it and have not had an issue since.

Dump IETab and run FF for a while, i'd be willing to bet you end up running fine.

I use Firefox 3.5.15 and it works great! As soon as they said extension wouldn't work with the next upgrade I never bothered updating it...and I don't regret not doing that.

I just installed IEtab today. I was having issues long before then. I'm trying Pale Moon and so far my issues are solved.

I'm running the latest Firefox without any issues but then again I don't have it loaded with add-ons. Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

I have more extensions than you and no issue with the update.

Have you tried the option to restart FF with your add-ons disabled to see if there is a difference? (Under Help>Restart with Add-Ons Diabled)

Just a point of interest... ie10 will be without extensions. Based solely on HTML5.

Re your firefox problem - one drawback to the modular model of development is that Firefox is especially prone to memory leaks occur when an app is unable to release or reduce memory consumption when the program is open. Po's suggestion is a very good one. Here's another - make firefox an 'exception' in Windowblinds. Just try it to see whether that makes a difference.

I know this is a little off, but looking through those extensions, almost all except maybe one, have been ported over to Chrome. I was an avid Firefox user years ago. They released version 3 that was sooo laggy when it first released I couldn't stand it.

Then I tried out Chrome at about version 6 and never looked back. I had to use Firefox on a clients machine the other day and I can't believe how slow it feels coming from Chrome. I'd at least try chrome before trying to track down a memory leak in Firefox.

I would also grab a copy of malware bytes and ensure your system if free from trojans and malware, browser slow down is normally the first place we will detect an issue with it. (Have I mentioned Chrome is entirely sandboxed and rated the most secure mainstream browser available?)

I use Chrome almost exclusively, but my husband runs Nightly with an add-on called FasterFox; he said it really speeds it up and his system is Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I use Firefox but the only add on I have is Adblocker plus. I only hate it when it youtube acts up...

I use Malwarebytes every month. Just did a scan the other day. My system is clean as usual.

As for Chrome? No thanks. The Chrome GUI is very ugly and I don't like the way Chrome handles extensions or the way the bookmarks are setup and used.

Firefox 4 and somewhat 5 (thinking I'm remembering that correctly) seemed bad with extensions, has been smooth sailing ever since then though. Firefox 9 has been great, haven't moved to 10 yet on this computer... usually run newest on my laptop for a couple days first to try it out.

If there is a difference then you can enable your add-ons 1x1 to find the culprit (If it is an add-on giving you trouble)

I always allow upgrading to the latest Firefox to occur, no issues either at all on XP, Vista or Windows 7 and the speed is fine. One thing I do not do is installs add-ons though, I only use the ones that are necessary or that come with Firefox, and I only have two extra themes installed for compatibility with WB skins. The theme I use most is Silvermel as it goes with just about anything.

Seriously, Chrome blows all other browsers out of the water, it really does. And most of your favorite FF extensions are available like AdBlock +

Are you folks that refuse to move to the newest versions running on somewhat dated pc's? I haven't hit any problems anyway. Glad you fellas have a solution at least.

No. My system is around 6 months old.

Mines a brand new rig. I have not upgraded because i don't like the look and one of my crucial add-ons is not support beyond 3.6.

Mines pretty new...but certain addons I like don't work in newer versions of firefox. And the older version I'm using works fast...so no reason to update unless the addons get updated.

didn't google infiltrate firefox to bring down the quality so chrome would look more appealing to consumers?
