Annoying Windows Sounds

Ok this is really annoying, when ever I click on a folder the windows click xsounds comes to annoy me.

Ok, I already did the following steps already:

go to control panel
Sound and audio devices
go to sounds
changed sound scheme to "No Sounds" clicked applied and then ok

and yet I still hear the window click on the folders....

Anyone got a suggestion on how to get rid of the sounds short of deleting the sound click

He's saying to change that individual sound. That one sound is the first thing I always change when I start a new system.

So in detail (for XP):

Scroll down through the "Program events" until you See "Start Navigation" - it is in the "Windows Explorer" group
Select "Start Navigation"
In "Sounds" something should be selected ("Windows XP Start.wav", I think), change it to "(None)"
Click "Apply"

That should make the d*mn sound go away.

It is strange that selecting "No Sounds" didn't get rid of it. Definately not to insult your intelligence, but could you have missed hitting "Apply"?

even if you click ok, it would still work, but it is still not working even if I turn off every sound there is.

I use custom sounds from games I own for a lot of things. I can't wait to get some Elemental sounds for stuff

I recently had a program that decided it was a good idea to play a sound every time I pressed a certain button. Don't remember the program, but lets start there. What all do you have running on your system? If you right click the speaker icon in your task bar, select open volume mixer, and turn down and mute Windows Sounds. I don't think this will help, but it should confirm that windows isn't actually the one playing the sound. ( Other programs can use the sounds windows uses. )

but you also disabled windows sounds...so it isnt windows at the same time. My point is that youve got something going on, and troubleshooting 101 says to start with the most simple and obvious solution, that will rule out the most possiblities. Doing as I said will guarantee that windows can not send out any sound. Please try it, then we can move on.

Sorry my post wasn't helpful in the least. You can also navigate to C:\Windows\Media\Windows Navigation Start.wav and delete it if you really don't want it around anymore. If you do this, and don't empty the recycle bin (so you can restore it if need be) and the sound still plays, then...

zechio seems good at troubleshooting. Listen to him.

Rather than delete 'Windows XP Start.wav', you could just rename it. Just add something like a number to it. You wouldn't have to worry about losing the file, and the annoying little sound would almost definately be gone.

hmmm? Um yeah, I read it. You're annoyed with the sound that keeps popping up right? I would have said make a new sound profile but I saw where you said that didn't work for you, so I didn't know what else to suggest.

But it is occuring whenever I am click on a folder in my windows explorer and I don't have programs that modify any of the windows settings
