I don't know if there are post of this kind already if so it would be a pleasure if you could provide me a link to that post. But anyway i have finally bought me a copy of Vista... erm Home Basic. First download from Stardock is Object Dock freeware... since it isn't very specific if it works exclusively for Vista Premium and up, i tried installing it. However when i try to run it, window says Object Dock stopped working. and so on. I reset the PC and re run OD but still, it stopped working. Am i having incompatibility issues here? if so how can i resolve it?

Post Script. Logon Vista isn't working as well.....

I can say that the free version of OD works with Home Basic. I used it for over a year with no trouble at all.

I still use OD but have OD+ now.

Hey shelbygt long time no talk. it's been all work for me now ahehehe.

I don't know. I just installed OD free. naturally since the sys req says compatible with vista i would assume it is  compatible even on basic. so i just can't understand why it hangs and stops working when i run it. for now i have resorted to Rocketdock. Pretty nice but not so nice as OD i tell you. I really want OD on my PC.

Windows Vista Home Basic

1gb RAM

160 GB HDD

Oh and it's a packaged desktop by the way. Acer Aspire...

or is their e-recovery technology killing all my Stardock Apps. Take note even Logon Vista doesn't work. Oh the pain.

Did you even read this thread before replying, davyandjane?

I recall something about Acer security or some such thing being a problem. There was a post about it a while back. I am sure Lantec or someone can dig it up.

Phillip it sounds like there is some program installed on the computer which handles the regs and such.

Sort of like a firewall or a anti-virus. Simular to the likes of spybot I bet. This would stop the program from writing to the registry. Thus it fails to run. That or the UAC is doing something wrong on that machine for some reason. Try turning the UAC off and reinstalling the programs.

Lantec is correct.  It's a known issue with the E-Security program that comes pre-loaded on most Acer computers.  The update available here: http://www.egistec.com/oem-acer001/program-update.html (from the link LanTec provided) should clear it up.

Myself I would not use that program and it would be uninstalled from my computer!

Thanks Dash and Lantec - this is what I had figured - just did not know what program that Acer had called it to be.

Sounds a lot like Spybot to me and I hate these types of programs on anything. People just thought UAC with Vista was bad and then they resort to something like this to protect their systems.

Phillip you can try that patch - but be me I'd remove the program itself completely. Besure you run a good anti-virus and firewall and be happy with it. Reg blockers are a mess!

Yeah, uninstalling was the original option to fix that issue before the update was found, so we offer that up too.  It's your choice of which option to use(my choice = ).

Wow what a research Lantec. Thank you so much. I will do what the threads suggest. For now i just need to download the patch. See if it works when i get back home. Thank you all.

By the way Rocketdock is cool. It just lacks the subtle elegance of ObjectDock.

On and the little fight brewing above. Just strikes my humor LOL!. Please don't fight.

Charles, thanks will do what you suggests

Lantec way to go! Thanks for that.

Feedback... tomorrow
