vista effects problem

I have been using Windows Vista Home Basic a while now...at first...i think i had the special effects like when you close a window, it will fade out or if u open it, it will fade in, and if u minimize it and point at the minimized window, then u can see it in a very small window appearing there.

right now, they're gone. it just feels like windows XP. is there a way to get these special effects back? i have tried scanning my pc...nothing.
so yeah, a little help would be nice

or possibly.....Windowblind configuration > Settings Tab > Override Default Settings Tab > Advanced Button > UNcheck "Disable Standard Windows Animation Effects"

not the XP with vista visuals.

With control panel go to personalization and appearances, go to color schemes,classic ,you should see Vista basic and Vista standard. One does the window effects and has a different user pic location than the other.I use home basic also. Once in a while a blind will unload Vista basic,leaving only standard. when that happens,re-apply Vista desktop to unload WB's and reboot. I hope this helps.

[edit] Vista Basic is the one with the animated windows,but I think WB's needs it set to Standard.

And isn't it nice of MS. Since we don't get aero,they give us two versions of ugly.

(Wizard quickly re-applies Windowblinds,trying not look at it)

{edit} You only need to re-boot if the Vista Basic option is missing,otherwise just select it and apply.And it's only disappeared on me 3 times,so that's rare, not "once in a while".

can u be more exact please?i'm real beginner at this kind of stuff. can u tell it to me as exact as possible.i go to control panel (control panel home) > appearance and personalization > can't find ''color schemes.''

Sorry I couldn't get back sooner.If you use the Vista UI(no WB) and want the animations,pick Vista Basic. When you apply a Windowblind though, it will change it to Vista Standard.You have to change it back each time you unload Windowblinds if you want the effects on.This confused me at first too.

and if i use WindowBlinds, then i set it to Windows Aero. this doesn't seem to work on neither one(basic or standard). i don't get any of these special effects.

There isn't a big difference between the two.How to tell which one you have:Vista standard/greyish start menu and buttons with your user pic above it on the right,windows don't animate(they"shrink",not fade in and out) when min/restoring,taskbar lighter colored.---- Vista Basic/darker taskbar and startmenu,bluegrey buttons,user pic inside the start menu on right side.The effects are very subtle,personally I don't miss them enough to switch back over and always have a WB loaded anyway.It's Home Basic,not Home premium and the graphics effects are minimal,to say the least. "and if u minimize it and point at the minimized window, then u can see it in a very small window appearing there." Would that be tooltips?You get that with both versions.

Yeah, I already know that. as i said: The animations Don't work on neither one. Even if i use WindowBlinds with the Windows Aero. So Aero should have the glass effect and all. I don't see any transparency or animations at all. So can u just tell me what to do? I really want to get them to work!

Vista Home Basic does not support Aero or blur.Windowblinds wont "fix" that.You need to get Home premium for aero,3d windows and 'flip'animations. The paid version of WB's will allow transparent effects on skins,not the Vista Basic or standard interface.The"animations"happen quickly,it's barely noticeable and only with WB's unloaded,and on Vista Basic.Are you using the paid or trial WindowBlinds?

I only used the trial for two hours(I was easy,lol) but I know you can't recolor with it and I don't think transparency is fully supported. The paid version is well worth the money,lots of great skins here,most100% free.Loads of great"clear" ones.You'll soon forget what Vista Basic looks like.Make sure you uninstall the trial and reboot before you install the paid version.Have fun.P.S. anyways. i still don't even get the effects without the WB(not that i get them WITH THE WB's). doesn't matter how many times i choose the standard or basic. and how many times i have restarted. what should i do? reinstall vista?

I believe that is your answer right there. Home Basic never had those effects to begin with.

If possible, compare what you're getting to a standard (uncustomized) machine with Home Basic installed to see if there is any difference, but I doubt it.

In my opinion,what little effects there are isn't worth that much work.I can switch them on and off, and they are minimal at best,it's only a tiny,very fast "shrink-expand" effect when min/maxing windows,different start menus, and that's it.It's up to you,of course,but you aren't missing much, if you have lost them.

If possible, compare what you're getting to a standard (uncustomized) machine with Home Basic installed to see if there is any difference, but I doubt it.

An excellent idea, take a trip to your local computer store if possible, and check it out.
