Firefox 3 Release & Stardock Site Compatibility
Jul 30, 2008 12:59

Firefox 3.0 goes final and is scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 17th.

There are currently known incompatibilities between Firefox 3 and many of our sites and forums. For the most part, the sites function properly, but have formatting issues. A specific example are the login & password fields to log into these forums. In Firefox 3, instead of both being on the same line, they are stacked vertically.

We will be addressing these visual issues in time. Please do NOT post threads on the forums pointing out Firefox 3 site issues. They will be deleted. We are aware of the problems and will work as quickly as we can to resolve them.

Until posted otherwise, the only version of Firefox our sites support at the moment is Firefox 2.

Stardocks Relationship With Neowin

By Posted May 12, 2008 23:00:48External Link

There is an interesting thread over at Neowin regarding Stardock's relationship with Neowin which is worth reading. Click on the external link above to read it.

For years, people like myself, Pas and others have strongly defended the constant trolling that Stardock seems to get over at that place. To be totally honest, it totally pisses me off as most of the 'trolls' are totally uninformed and are ignorant about Stardock products. Now the relationship is totally out in the open. People can now see how much Stardock have helped Neowin and furthermore they can also see that Stardock have not taken advantage of that relationship. Perhaps now, Brad and his products will get the respect, he and they deserve. I sincerely hope so. Thank you, Brad and I hope the millions of Neowin users are grateful too.

The response has been pretty positive.

Like you mentioned, we take a beating over there and even though we have held the hammer for years, we've restrained ourselves from bringing it down on the trollers.

It matters more our intrarelations.

Many may see it that way, but sadly there's bound to be people who will think otherwise.

*lights a gothiky candle and waves it around for brad* (and then bows down a few times...)

Phew....9 pages of catch-up...

It always pays to keep properly up-to-speed with stuff like this....

It's worth the read, Jafo. It certainly has been a 'wake up' call for those who take life and other things for granted.

It's worth the read, Jafo.

That it was....though [for me] there was nothing particularly new....except perhaps the overall general acceptance of the move/news.

Detractors really have no leg to stand on as it was a done-deal years ago...and subsequent history demonstrates there were only positives to the move....

I've had Neowin in my favorites for awhile but rarely remember it. Seems like a good site though.

The article and comments made for an interesting read though.

Seems as though the trollers there are the same as anywhere.

The ridiculous mindset of :

I want this product but I don't want to pay for it and since I can't have it without paying for it I'll badmouth it as much as I can and badmouth anyone who actually has paid for it and defends it.

That and people who try a product and have a conflict with it working on their machine but aren't smart enough to figure it out whether they did something wrong while installing it or why it isn't working the way it should before deciding that it is complete shit. Of course once they decide that everyone else should think so too just because they say so.

Just a bunch of bullshit from immature, ignorant people.

It been years since I've been there, I just never liked the the place. Can't even remember my login...

That thread Frogboy linked to in his response at Neowin was just awful to read. It felt as if a group of extremely immature teenagers ganged up on a more successful person. The jealousy and the hatred was almost dripping out of their responses.

I was glad however to read the mostly positive responses to the main thread. This probably shows that the 'bullies' are a (very vocal) minority.

I am a Neowin member too.....rarely go there.
May 13, 2008 05:26:40
Yeah, I'am Neowin member too..
Neowin is good tech site, but wrong for skinning...
Neowinners mostly not like unique skins or skinners there, they prefer uxtheme patches, visual styles.. I'm read many personal attack for I.R. or vStyler, or Islanddog...
Maybe...they lives the darkside of the earth ... of course not all members.
So, if you need skinning help, don't go to neowin.

I find it comical that most of the gripes are that people do not like Brad's "know it all" attitude.
I have found most of Bra'ds articles to be spot on, well thought out, and based on much experience. Rarely do I sense any attitude unless it is a rant. I guess the people that do not favor his know it all attitude are only feeling their self esteem ripple because someone is better educated on the mattere than them.

I like the thread on Neowin because it shows the real community, not just some trollers who can't stand that someone actually charges a small price for their software.

The one thing I know pretty much for a fact, is people who bash our software usually have never used it.

I do rub people the wrong way because I am extremely arrogant by nature. Now, normally when I have free time, I can spend time pretending not to be so arrogant.  But when I'm busy, I just don't care enough to pretend not to be arrogant.

Whether my arrogance is justified or not is irrelevant.  It rubs some people the wrong way.  So I do empathize where they are coming from. I just don't really care about their feelings when it comes right down to it.  There's no malice intended. But on the topics I choose to participate on I tend to be very familiar with and those who disagree with me tend to be...less familiar with. So I am not always gentle in my handling of them.

Being rubbed the wrong way due to someones attitude and then voicing an opinion about it is one thing. Bashing someones company/products just because their attitude rubbed you the wrong way is just childish.
