Firefox 3 Release & Stardock Site Compatibility
Jul 30, 2008 12:59

Firefox 3.0 goes final and is scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 17th.

There are currently known incompatibilities between Firefox 3 and many of our sites and forums. For the most part, the sites function properly, but have formatting issues. A specific example are the login & password fields to log into these forums. In Firefox 3, instead of both being on the same line, they are stacked vertically.

We will be addressing these visual issues in time. Please do NOT post threads on the forums pointing out Firefox 3 site issues. They will be deleted. We are aware of the problems and will work as quickly as we can to resolve them.

Until posted otherwise, the only version of Firefox our sites support at the moment is Firefox 2.

Stardock water dream problem...

By Posted May 8, 2008 06:18:48

Hello!

I'm sure it's user error but not sure what I should do to fix my issue at this time.

My issue is as follows...

Stardock water dream is running on my vista ultimate 32bit machine (which runs fine) except one thing: when changing the background image from 'sand' to anything else, deskscapes or vista does not retain the new image i have selected and always reverts back to sand upon restart/reboot.

Have I missed something glaringly obviouse?

I have had the same problem (reported here ). I have had no luck fixing this. Still happened with the latest versions.

Where does Dreams stored the info for the wall? Is it an xml file somewhere? Would love to find a fix, as I have no stop using Dreams because of this.

Should have said "...to stop using Dreams because of this."

Are you using the free version of the water dream that comes with DeskScapes or the paid version?

I am using the version that came free with my purchased object desktop suite.

Have tried using different image files such as: jpeg/bmp most toher dreams seem to run fine, also the older versions of deskscapes would run water dream fine with my choice of backdrop...

Still pondering...

Hm... I'll take a look to see if I can duplicate the problem... (I currently work on dreams at Stardock, I just don't have a logo near my name yet).

Does the version you have save the drip effects each time that you reload the settings menu or do they revert to the default setting each time you load it?

The slider bars also revert back to default, as soon as I adjust them then click ok - close the settings window then re-click on the dynamic settings button they are back to default.

I also have sp1 if that is any use to you and the latest version of deskscapes and tweak vista (these are the only two applications I have chosen to install from my purchased suite) aside from stardock central.

Have tried reinstalling deskscapes, but same result.

In my opinion the Water dream is the best one available, and I have a collection of around 11 free user submitted ones, but always end up chosing the stardock created one, it's just perfect! especially when used with personal choice of backdrop

** just remembered... the dream folder had been moved to my documents folder by stardock central for some reason I assumed this was normal? in other words the dream files are seperate from the where the core application is stored? should I move the folder?

user name > documents > stardock > dreams.

user name > documents > stardock > dreams is the main dream folder now... You have an older version of the Water Dream. The problems with reverting to the default settings was fixed a few weeks ago... I'll make sure that the new version is the one posted online and get back to you asap!

Just upgraded and downloaded ODT 2008 having done an account detail lookup from stardock central and had the dload links sent to my email addy, Using impulse to install everything, deskscapes included, The water dream installed is still having the same issues, furthermore a few months ago when updating deskscapes I had a few free stardock created dreams installed with the update including the swimming shark one, however all updates since then do not include this shark one although I do get the water/watercolour/grass field/desktop earth ones.

Also when uninstalling deskscapes from Impulse, and re-installing, my subscription page showed that there was an invalid subscription linked to deskscapes (only have ODT/OD+/wincustomize sub) after removing impulse and re-installing deskscapes was working with my valid sub details/code...

*shoots self*

I assume deskscapes comes free with an ODT sub and that some stardock dreams come free also?
if this is not the case than water dream must be the free version and not an included full version with the purchase of ODT?

DeskScapes comes with a few free dreams, just so you can try it out to see how cool the software is. The Water Dream comes in two versions, the free on that comes with DeskScapes and a paid version on wincustomize (http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=483&libid=50). The paid version allows you to change the reflection image on the water as well as change the opacity of the water surface.

We haven't yet changed the free water dream version to the edited one (oops!) but it should be done soon! If it's not an update installed via Impulse then I would suggest re-installing DeskScapes   just to be sure!

I'll come back on and let you know for sure when they've updated if I'm kept in the loop about it!

First of all thanks for all your help, i'm sure you are quite busy and appreciate you looking into things

Just to let you know my latest testing...

I have uninstalled stardock central and object desktop, also deleting folders from c: and also the registry.

I have downloaded the free version for 'Vista Ultimate' users and installed it without SD central or Impulse.

No water dream present.

I have uninstalled deskscapes again using the above method and downloaded SD central and using it to dload the latest deskscapes.

Water dream and other free dreams present.
Still reverts to default.

I have uninstalled using the above method and installed Impulse, dloading latest deskscapes... still reverts to default.

I'm pretty sure something happened to the water dream in an update possibly just prior to 2.0 as before then I could always change the backdrop and it would always save it, since 2.0 I cannot personalize the water dream.

Just thought I would update you on my latest findings

Is it possible that an older customizable version of water dream has been replaced by a non-customizable version?

As I say, all previous versions i have had (or at least one version that has not been updated/replaced before) always enabled me to change the backdrop (though not the cloud image).

So as you say, it's not a paid for version (liquid dream) just the free water dream, perhaps stardock decided to change or limit the ability to apply a different background image at some point.

** Ok, just to round off my experience nicely... Now my activation will not work, I assume from constant install/uninstalling...

bummer.

Oh I'm glad to help. There was an older version of Water Dream that did save your settings. The update allowed for Water Dream to be upgraded to Liquid Dream (I believe, I wasn't the original creator of the dream). There was a slight problem that caused it to not save the settings but that problem was fixed. They're updating the standard Water Dream today though so hopefully that solves your problem!

If your activation still doesn't work I'll have a support person help you out to get it back to working.

Thanks again for the help!

My Deskscapes does not work anymore, I have got an open ticket with support, current status = 'open', priority = 'raised'

sorry to bother you, as I say I really only use water dream so it would be nice to have it back working on my desktop
May 29, 2008 09:44:45
Oh I perfectly understand! In my opinion, Water/Liquid Dream and the Desktop Photos dreams are the two best out there right now... Mainly because I'm still creating my first dynamic dream    .

It should be up soon though! At least by the time your Deskscapes problem gets fixed...

Cheers!

Thanks to the support team, and dreamer again

My sub now works again!

I will eagerly await the edited Water Dream, checking daily!
May 30, 2008 13:38:36
So, update on the status.

They're getting ready to publish an upgrade of DeskScapes of Vista Ultimate. When that comes out, the Water Dream will be updated with it. Not sure when that's going to be exactly but hopefully soon!
