Why does Impulse and SDC show difference version number on software (i.e. Windowsblind)?

i notice this too, it's very strange. for instance, today, SDC shows latest multiplicity pro version as 1.21.017 on 4/12/2008 and impulse shows i have an update available to 1.21.020 dated 5/4/2008

Ignore the last three digits . . they are the same apps and files just on different servers.

but that can't always be the case, with all the beta and alpha releases that go on, those last 3 digits do mean something for many of the ODNT subscriptions, don't they? and with different build dates as well

It's a safe bet to ignore the last three.

Is there any point then in keeping sdc installed since i assume impulse is taking over the update feature for current subscribers to ODNT.

SDC is supposed to have continuing support and can "coexist" with Impulse. The only issue I see is which do you prefer.

As time goes on Impulse will continue to be more integrated than SDC but according to those who know, you'll still be able to update you software thru SDC

Impulse is production level. However there are tons of updates on the way. It never hurts to have SDC as a back up.

Also Zubaz is right. The last three digits are our own filing system. You can ignore them.

Currently the Proxy tools are still not in place in Impulse so SDC is the best choice for security thick work computers. There are still no plans to kill SDC any time soon so my recommendation is to use Impulse and keep SDC around just in case.

While I can understand the idea of ignoring the last three digits, which will confuse most people as they use all the digits to determine a file number, I have a totally different figure for Windows Blinds.
In Impulse it shows version 6.09h[rc].138 and in SDC it says there is an update to version 6.10.079, although showing the same number as being installed as Impulse.
I cannot see how those two totally different numbers amount to the same thing.
Which one is the latest version?
Which one is right, and if both are for the same file version, why the complete difference in file numbers?
In both Impulse and SDC I have them set not to show beta versions.

well, if impulse will continue to evolve and become the better utility, what about skin browser integration like SDC has?

Brad has stated in other posts that skin browser integration is not on the plan.  We'll have to wait and see how that plays out.

The 6.10 version has been updated into Impulse and SDC now. You can get it from either. Let us know if you have any further troubles.
