Firefox 3 Release & Stardock Site Compatibility
Jul 30, 2008 12:59

Firefox 3.0 goes final and is scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 17th.

There are currently known incompatibilities between Firefox 3 and many of our sites and forums. For the most part, the sites function properly, but have formatting issues. A specific example are the login & password fields to log into these forums. In Firefox 3, instead of both being on the same line, they are stacked vertically.

We will be addressing these visual issues in time. Please do NOT post threads on the forums pointing out Firefox 3 site issues. They will be deleted. We are aware of the problems and will work as quickly as we can to resolve them.

Until posted otherwise, the only version of Firefox our sites support at the moment is Firefox 2.

Adding AutoHide Button to RocketDock

By Posted May 2, 2008 21:22:00
Hi all, I find myself clicking this in the menu quite frequently. Switching it on and off AutoHiding because RocketDock at times overlaps programs such as VLC or gets in the way of program menus.

Since such things as the RocketDock clock is possible, wouldn't it be possible to make a button with an icon in the Dock that would make it hide? Having to drop down the menu from time to time quickly gets annoying, and makes it seem like I constantly have to costumize the Dock in order to use it. A single button on the Dock would spare alot of time and problems.

Anyone have any idea how this could be done?

Here, it's something like this I'm dreaming of, click this while it's shown to hide it, when it slides down again and you click it it will stop hiding!

I'm confused, RocketDock? Do you mean ObjectDock or are you in the wrong forums?
May 2, 2008 21:34:14
Well, the forums say "Docks" not "ObjectDock" so I assume all kinds of Docks go here, besides I saw another RocketDock thread here. On a side note this is the only place on the net where I can ask for help about RocketDock, the original forums have been taken down for whatever reason.

Someone may know about RocketDock here and try to help, just keep in mind that it's not a Stardock program.

If RocketDock forums are down it may just be a temporay thing. You may need to try their home page.

I know Objectdock has a toggle auto hide entry in the add list, this give you a auto hide icon on dock. Does Rocketdock have something like this in the add item list.
In Objectdock the toggle auto hide is included so it is Stardock's docklet and coding.

If you like Rocketdock, then you'll love ObjectDock. It has the feature you want and so much more. I tried RD,and honestly there is no comparison. I use the free version,no nag screens, no timed demo, no adware and it has never failed in the 5 months I've used it.Also, the library of skins and icons for it is enormous. The paid version is even more adaptable. Give it a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Btw,you can install/run them both at the same time,OD has a tiny footprint, your system won't even notice it running.

I'm not familiar with RocketDock, I'd think there was an autohide feature in it (or should be) I think I remember someone saying RocketDock support is no longer happening. Coders dropped it or something. You should come over to this side of the dock world. Much better, and, it's supported.

I had RocketDock before ObjectDock, now I have both running at the same time:
I use RocketDock in the bottom desktop side only for the minimized windows (I find this feature superior to ObjectDock as there are no entries in the task bar)
+ ObjectDock in the left side (the toggle autohide is one of my favorite features very peculiar in ObjectDock)
BTW some time ago I made 4 ToggleAutohide icons 1 for each side: WWW Link

Have a look at "My Desktop" :WWW Link

This is a docks forum. Discussion about RocketDock is on topic.  WinCustomize is not just about Stardock. The skinning communty is large.

RocketDock is an excellent program.

I don't care about icons, skins, animations, all that junk. I'm looking for functionality.

I saw the video frankell, looks like that Dock can't stay where it's supposed to be, I don't have time to fiddle around trying to catch my Dock. Besides you never actually clicked the AutoHide button so I could see if it really worked.

I searched and found a thread where someone managed to make a "Show Desktop" button for RocketDock. Showing the desktop is an explorer command, if someone can link an explorer command to the Dock then I should be able to link the AutoHide command to the Dock as well.

Autohide is activated through a command in the config file saying AutoHide=1 or 0.

I need a way to toggle that number in the config file with a click on the Dock.

I saw the video frankell, looks like that Dock can't stay where it's supposed to be, I don't have time to fiddle around trying to catch my Dock.

The video sub title is "OnlyForPersonalFun" !
In the very first part I played with the dock moving the cursor in the Positioning > Spacing&Alignment dialog (the "configure dock" was not in the recorded area)
AW I made the video for the "NoLoadLimit Dock" preview only in a second time I added
"+ ToggleAutohide" as I really think is a good idea to have 1 icon for each desktop side !!
Besides you never actually clicked the AutoHide button so I could see if it really worked.

the best advice I can give you is to try by yourself as the ObjectDock free version is really complete !!

I didn't mean to imply there was anything wrong with it. I agree with you 100% Frogboy , it's just not as adaptable or as supported as OD. Wasn't Rocketdock made by self-admitted Apple fan? Perhaps someone on a Apple/Mac forum would know how to get Rocketdock to do what you need,Franky, or maybe someone here who uses both will read your post and can make you a RD "toggle-hide" docklet. Good Luck, either way Honestly though ,OD does work, will do everything you like about RD and more, is simple to use,the default docklets and icons will serve your purpose if you aren't into customizing, and the trial can be easily uninstalled if you don't like it. Now ,everyone,go ahead, flame me for suggesting a Mac site on WINCustomize, but I'm just trying to help and that is what the forums are for, after all.

... only in a second time I added "+ ToggleAutohide" as I really think is a good idea to have 1 icon for each desktop side !!

only registering the video I noticed that the ToggleAutohide icon was not the one dedicated to the top desktop side + I decided to go on and to change the icon "live".
I don't care about icons, skins, animations, all that junk. I'm looking for functionality.

just remenber that we are in the "docks" < "OS Customization" section of the forum + I like to share the staff I made !
... and that is what the forums are for, after all.

in this skinners community we are not only sharing the stuff but also the ideas !

Oh hi, I was gonna get ObjectDock til I saw I can't AutoHide unless I pay up some cash.

May 4, 2008 13:35:14
Heh.

Much as I hate to admit it when it happens, Brad's spoken the truth again.

I'm sorry that the functionality you want is only in Object Dock Plus.

You can use the generously-provided free version and enjoy it, you can pony up (like many of us have) and purchase OD+ and be impressed with its functionality which makes RocketDock cry, or you can whine.

Sorry you've chosen the last.

BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
/whine

Well I tried the free version of object dock, and encountered some new and exciting problems. So far the ObjectDock haven't made the greatest impressions yet.

While ObjectDock is running, things like this happens whenever I open and close the start menu.

I find it obnoxious it ignores the absolute rule that the TaskManage is ALWAYS on top. ALWAYS. Well except when ObjectDock thinks it can butt in of course...

Is this the Dock I heard so many good things about? I was ready to make a permanent switch from RocketDock to ObjectDock!
May 4, 2008 13:47:55
The free version 1.90 build534 will allow me to toggle autohide,it's listed in the docklets as "toggle autohide",it's on my dock and I use it 30+ times a day,or am I imagining this? P.S. Thanks for the icons,Frankell, even if I am hallucinating!

Looks like either a bad install or video card issues.

Is always on top for me.

Running Plus version.

That is the autohide for maxed apps which is a Plus feature, free version has normal autohide.

Nice name for your screenshot, we are trying to be helpful, no need for it.
May 4, 2008 14:35:35
Franky, please go to this page, it will tell you how to configure autohide in RD settings/behavior/autohide. You can set it to auto from there or drop down menu only. Appears you just have to live with the limitations. Have a nice day! http://rocketdock.com/Help/English/#docklets

it's my pleasure Wizard !

I have been running XP with the ObjectDock free version since October 2007 I never had any issues
I just repeat that the only feature superior in RocketDock is "minimized windows" to the dock (no entries in the task bar) I have no icons in RocketDock I use it as a mini virtual desktop !
BTW every so often I have RK Launcher in the right desktop side, it's also freeware, did you hear about it ? (AW the autohide feature is pretty similar to RocketDock)
May 5, 2008 15:40:48
Waaaaa, if it isn't free I don't want it waaaaaa, waaaaaaa, waaaaa. For sh!t's sake, some people make me sick.
May 5, 2008 16:33:46
Didya take a look at the above screenshot messiah?
In case you didn't notice I actually did get the Dock despite the limitations of of the freeware.

My problem is how it messes up the 8800GTS i bought last week.
May 5, 2008 16:57:24
This being the kind of community is, some one will help you with your video card issue and all you'll have to do is ask. Being polite never hurts anything either. I only wish I had a card that good, (mine's a 6150SE) so I'm no help. Good Luck and enjoy your new docks.
