Firefox 3 Release & Stardock Site Compatibility
Jul 30, 2008 12:59

Firefox 3.0 goes final and is scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 17th.

There are currently known incompatibilities between Firefox 3 and many of our sites and forums. For the most part, the sites function properly, but have formatting issues. A specific example are the login & password fields to log into these forums. In Firefox 3, instead of both being on the same line, they are stacked vertically.

We will be addressing these visual issues in time. Please do NOT post threads on the forums pointing out Firefox 3 site issues. They will be deleted. We are aware of the problems and will work as quickly as we can to resolve them.

Until posted otherwise, the only version of Firefox our sites support at the moment is Firefox 2.

Spore: Skinning the game

Skinners, gamers, and users Unite!!

Wincustomize is made up of lots of different people.  Many are skinners and many are skin users.  We also have a significant number of folks that cross over from Stardock's gaming sites.

Soon we may have a game that brings us all together and evens the playing field.  That game is Spore by EA and Maxis

Spore is a massively single player multi-platform god game under development by Maxis and designed by Will Wright that allows a player to control the evolution of a species from its beginnings as a single cellular organism, through development as a sapient and social land-walking creature, to levels of interstellar exploration as a space faring culture. The game expands on evolutionary game play seen in Evolution: The Game of Intelligent Life, released in 1997, and has drawn wide attention for its massive scope, and its use of open-ended gameplay and procedural generation. [wikipedia]

The gameplay is distinct and unique as the player moves through the "evolution" of his creature.

Tide Pool Phase

Fight with other creatures and consume them to adjust the form and abilities of your creature. It's survival of the fittest at the most microscopic level.

Creature Phase

Venture onto land and help your creature learn and evolve with forays away from your nest. The only way to grow is by taking chances!

Tribal Phase

Instead of controlling an individual creature, you are now caring for an entire tribe. Give them tools and guide their interactions as you upgrade their state of existence.

Civilization Phase

Once your city is established, your creatures begin seeking out and interacting with other cultures. Make contact with an olive branch or a war cry. The goal for your creatures is to conquer the planet.

Space Phase

The time has come to move on to other worlds in your solar system. Make contact, colonize, or terraform, then venture further to find other solar systems. A 'mission' structure provides new goals in your quest for galactic dominance.

One of the most interesting aspects is that even though this is a single player game, other players creatures at or near the same evolutionary stage as your creature will be downloaded for your creature to interact with.  Very cool
