Firefox 3 Release & Stardock Site Compatibility
Jul 30, 2008 12:59

Firefox 3.0 goes final and is scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 17th.

There are currently known incompatibilities between Firefox 3 and many of our sites and forums. For the most part, the sites function properly, but have formatting issues. A specific example are the login & password fields to log into these forums. In Firefox 3, instead of both being on the same line, they are stacked vertically.

We will be addressing these visual issues in time. Please do NOT post threads on the forums pointing out Firefox 3 site issues. They will be deleted. We are aware of the problems and will work as quickly as we can to resolve them.

Until posted otherwise, the only version of Firefox our sites support at the moment is Firefox 2.

Windows XP 64-bit not compatible????? Please help!

By Posted April 25, 2008 16:28:03

Almost everything on the update page of impulse says it's not compatible with my windows version.  Things I just paid for recently even have updates and I can't even get them?  Is this being worked on? I posted in a thread that someone else started about this problem already early this week or so, and no answers as to how to get these updates.  What are we supposed to do if we're stuck on Windows XP 64-bit version?

wow 3 days and no devs say anything on this? Is this something even going to be worked on at all or are we just out of luck and spent our money for nothing?

What apps are you most concerned about?

Did you check out the product pages for system requirements?

There are several projects that are being updated for 64bit Windows. MyColors, Icon Packager, WindowBlinds.... I will have to double check all the 64bit updates is XP as well as Vista. What software are you looking for? Some of the updates have already occured. Have you tired them out yet?

Never mind, I've since reformatted my computer with Windows XP 32 bit since so dang many things are incompatible with the 64 bit version. I am by far not the only one that was in this mess though. I've been a paying customer of Stardock for a few years now for many little things as well as an Object Desktop subscriber. I've been using the Windows XP 64 bit for over 2 years with all of the programs via the Stardock Central program and never had any issues with compatibility until now.

I do hope that those not as fortunate as me with the ability to load the 32 bit version of Windows XP will get their monies worth with updates that will make it compatible. It's one thing to say "did you check the system requirements" to someone that has just purchased a program, but that's not the case here with people that have been yearly subscribers and all of a sudden just thrown out of the loop because all of a sudden a certain operating system is "no longer" compatible that was all the way up till now.

Thanks for at least posting Seabass even if it did take 5 days for you to do so lol. Please tell the devs to at least work on this issue all across the board for all the OS rather than just the most used ones. There are a lot of people out there with 64 bit XP that purchased it like we did, no warning anywhere saying it wasn't a commercial version nor supported by many software companies. There is no way for anyone to know it's not the right one. You go online, look for windows to purchase, see that there is a 64 bit version, say to yourself "self, I just built a 64 bit computer so windows xp 64 bit must be the right thing for it" and you buy it. Two months later you're pulling out your hair because you can't find a decent security system (there are a few now finally), certain favorite programs won't work with it, etc. Enough to make you just wanna cry after spending the money to buy the dang OS.

Anyways thanks again and sorry for ranting, but someone needs to take notice of us little guys lol.

I feel your pain Wolverana. My apologies for the late response but the messages do move pretty fast in these forums and I watch over about six sites. Besides Zubaz had you good and covered. If you get stuck on anything feel free to PM me a question.

I too run 64bit Vista for using Maya and other 3D and 2D art applications. It does drive me insane just how many applications simply will not function (or at least well enough) on 64bit. I really is the bazooka when quail hunting these days. The good news here is that I am not blowing smoke. The updates are in process and they will be out there as soon as they are ready to go.

When will Impulse get XP 64 support?
May 24, 2008 16:09:05
Wolverana correctly said. Vista x64 supports the old version Liguidox not do that for Vista! A new Suite Liguidox does not support. Strange? I bought six of Impulse bonus Suite faces to boot, but I do not set them because they do not work every pixel.

trying to run, update, or install a game that is not marked as 64bit compatible gives an error message saying it is not compatible with your windows version.

Gish for example tells me it is not compatible if i try to run or install it from impulse.
However, if I install it from SDC I can run and play, but unfortunately, the sound doesn't work, and it seems like there are some glitches.

Nonetheless, it would be nice if it allow the game to be force updated even if it is not supposedly compatible with the version of windows used.

As for those updates... if it is the last three digits then it is only a different server, but same version...
IE: daemonica 1.10.004 is just 1.10.002 on a different server, the 1.10 is the part that matters.

As far as 64 bit support goes, when will IconPackager get it? I managed to install IconPackager a while back... and now my desktop keeps getting screwed up, with (most) of the icons getting replaced by white squares. The "quick fix" of reinstalling IconPackager isn't working, because Impulse won't let me install it anymore!

beats me i been running the betas for a while and IP and WB both seem to work fine for me ..

The latest version of Icon Packager 4 will work for XP 64bit. It is the last version to have this specific update/OS in mind.

Impulse dose not work for XP64 bit at this time. You will need to use Stardock Central to obtain your downloads I'm afraid. As most of the software world dose, so to dose Stardock when it comes to this OS. We simply are no longer putting out updates for XP 64bit. I am sorry for the troubles in this but we must move forward with the majority of software developers.

So long as I can fix the broken icons, I'll live!

That is a bug we are currently working on. We will update it asap. Please look to Impulse to get the update as soon as possible.

on 90+% of Windows XP 64 Bit OS, you can run all 32 bit apps, even when it says it is not compatible. Ex to get the Impulse to run as 32 bit, thus allowing the download/install of programs is to set the compatibility to Windows XP. Right click on Icon / Properties / Compatibility

This worked for me, thank you.

What OS is ment to be supported with the final release?

Birger

The worst thing is probably that a lot of software is XP64bit compatible, just that some OS checking routines are not 'updated' for it.

June 17, 2008 19:57:15

Please do not set any compatibility modes on Impulse.

Doing so will break the installation of any apps which are actually 64 bit native.

interesting that you said that... there are some games where I have seen third party groups modify exactly that to get the game to work with modern OSes.

A straight recompile would probably work too, if companies didn't have a tendancy to loose code once the game gets a little old (but not old enough to be in public domain).

I just installed Impulse for the purpose of updating Sins of a Solar Empire.. which turns out is not compatible with XP64 when I click on the "update" button. The game itself runs great, other then being unable to get any of the updates from Impulse which is going to be the only way of updating it in the future.. did I waste my money on Sins? (I don't plan on changing my OS just for this game)

You can run Impulse in computability mode and get your updates.
July 1, 2008 11:59:08
I tried that, Impusle complained about not having enough hard drive space to install the updates. I have 1 hard drive in this PC and it has over 100gb free..

The problem with 64-bit Vista and XP compatibility should be fixed now.  Please see http://forums.stardock.com/317057 for more information and post there if you are still having a problem with this.
