Firefox 3 Release & Stardock Site Compatibility
Jul 30, 2008 12:59

Firefox 3.0 goes final and is scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 17th.

There are currently known incompatibilities between Firefox 3 and many of our sites and forums. For the most part, the sites function properly, but have formatting issues. A specific example are the login & password fields to log into these forums. In Firefox 3, instead of both being on the same line, they are stacked vertically.

We will be addressing these visual issues in time. Please do NOT post threads on the forums pointing out Firefox 3 site issues. They will be deleted. We are aware of the problems and will work as quickly as we can to resolve them.

Until posted otherwise, the only version of Firefox our sites support at the moment is Firefox 2.

Downloaded images not accepted

I downloaded a few icons for ObjectDock Plus from wincustomize and placed them in the OD library. However, when I try to assign them, OD ignores the choice completely.

If I place them in a different folder (OD application folder in this case) they are displayed and assigned correctly.

I already tried changing the owner of the library folder to my local user account or launching OD as administrator. So far, the library folder doesn't work for me.

The same happen for themes: If I download them to the library, the themes browser show blank lines instead of the name and preview icon and assigning them to docks does nothing.

This is with Vista Home Premium.

Ok what icons specifically ? I will try to replicate the Issue but need your OD version # and the names of  the Icons in question, Or links to the downloads.

Object Dock Plus is version 1.90a (Build 538u).

I tried downloading and using the Wikipedia search icon. The download works, I get two png files (as far as I can see of the same dimension as the stock icons) in the library under /images or /assorteddownloads. I open the properties of my search shortcut, 'choose custom image', select them, 'ok'. The default icon remains.

The same procedure, when the icons are placed in the OD application folder, works and I get the Wiki icons.

For the themes:
I tried several, Aero metal, Aerial, etc. Basically none work. They get unpacked in the /themes folder of the library, but OD only lists them as blank entries in the themes list that do nothing when applied. My guess is if I get the icons to work, the themes will work as well. But icons are easier to test.

I'm on an admin-user account (not Administrator) running German Vista HP (no SP1 so far).
Starting OD as admin didn't help, in fact, it had the effect that I couldn't drag shortcuts from my desktop to the dock anymore.
Giving 'everybody' read access to the library didn't help.
Changing ownership of the library folder from 'Administrator' to didn't help.

That's all that I tried so far.
Skins for WindowsBlinds work, but they seem to be stored on a different path anyway.

PS:

Using 'browse for icons' works only when the icon is NOT within the library. OD seems to have problems gaining proper access to that folder, which is why I tried fiddling with the rights management.

C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Stardock\ObjectDock Library\Backgrounds is where the docks should be saved to.

Also remember the files are in a ZIp so they will need extracting to the same location as above. As well as they could possibly be within another folder you would then need to copy the sub folders to the main BG directory (the one above). OD dont know to go any deeper within folders then the first folder to look for the data it requires.. so if the sub folders are within the a main folder, It wont see them..lemme know if this helps..

on a side note when setting an Icon image for a dock item, you can drag and drop the image to the "change icon window " Within the doc entry properties window and it will auto apply.   Instead of having to browse for the images

Background folders aside...

OD doesn't accept images when they are stored in the library folder. I could store them somewhere else, but what's the point of the library then?

Dragging images onto the 'change icon window' doesn't work at all. I get the standard Windows 'no go' cursor, no matter from which source.

Stil the same problem. Downloading and unzipping into /Backgrounds (either with one more folder for the skin or directly) gives me a completely empty preview in the style selection and no change when selecting an entry.

Edit: Could a moderator move this to the ObjectDock forums? I started this thread thinking it had something to do with Impulse, which is obviously not the case.
