Firefox 3 Release & Stardock Site Compatibility
Jul 30, 2008 12:59

Firefox 3.0 goes final and is scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 17th.

There are currently known incompatibilities between Firefox 3 and many of our sites and forums. For the most part, the sites function properly, but have formatting issues. A specific example are the login & password fields to log into these forums. In Firefox 3, instead of both being on the same line, they are stacked vertically.

We will be addressing these visual issues in time. Please do NOT post threads on the forums pointing out Firefox 3 site issues. They will be deleted. We are aware of the problems and will work as quickly as we can to resolve them.

Until posted otherwise, the only version of Firefox our sites support at the moment is Firefox 2.

Errmm...can't seem to edit my above post.

I tried the option and all it seemed to do was turn off the custom frame around Impulse. I take it this won't let use keep our custom skinned version of Impulse huh? (modded images and skin.xml) Don't suppose there will be any plans for that eh? Can't blame a girl fot trying.

I've a couple of issue that I brought up in the initial thread offering to try out impulse.
These issue were not addressed and I would greatly appreciate some insight.

1. My Anti-Virus software (Trend Micro 2008)complains that impulse is trying to change my internet explorer settings and blocks this from happening. Please explain to me why your program thinks it needs to mess with my internet explorer settings. I must consider the application a malicious security threat at this point.

2. Where is the option to ask me where to install the application and put the start menu shortcuts? Maybe I don't want these apps installed on my C drive. A person should have the ability to decide where an application resides.

I can understand that you are trying to make this application as idiot proof as possible but there is zero excuse for not allowing one to make rational decisions concerning their own system if one so chooses.

HIGHLY disappointed so far!

I've been having this problem since trying Impulse. The error msg reads as follows.

An update to Impulse is ready. Would you like to restart?
Please note: You will need to restart Impulse before installing any applications.

You must allow Impulse to run as Administrator to complete self update.

The file is version 1.0.0.0 dated 4/7/08
Running Vista Ultimate SP1

This message appears in an endless loop, so I can do nothing with the program.
I keep UAC off, but I turned it back on so that I could check the privilege level and try to force it to run as Admin. Program is set to run as Admin for all users. Nothing works. Telling it to run as Admin in the UAC prompt does not work.

I've searched the forums and I cannot find anything similar.
Any ideas?

I don't get it...how does this option to "disable custom skin" work?
When I check it I use the current WB skin.
April 9, 2008 20:00:53
Another issue, I found out today. Don't even think about deleting any of the pre-installed skins.
Once you do, you magically have a new update. Interesting. SDC didn't do this.
Impulse not only looks for the applications, it also checks the skins.
Delete a skin.....guess what? UPDATE!!

Bug Report

Latest Impulse build, updated

The Registrations tab shows the MyColors Quest desktop as a current registration, but My Desktop/Themes shows 'You own no applications in this category'.

The MyColors app does show Quest

Bug Report

Impulse updated tonight. XP Pro SP2

Archives are still 0 bytes

More info:

I archived SKS6 version 6.00.003 (showing an update available ... I haven't updated to 6.00.006 yet), went to check the file size and the archived file name was SkinStudio 6 Professional 6.00.006 and was 0 bytes

I then archived Windowblinds (not showing an update); the file name was correct as far as the version number but still 0 bytes

Did you uninstall and cleanup good before you reinstalled. Oh and a good cleanup needs a restart. I'd be trying that with for sure getting the temp files cleaned up too!

I'll try that. Thanks, SGT!

Uninstalled and cleaned as per SGT's suggestion, re-installed, updated, etc. no change

Those two bug reports are still valid.

Hopefully SDC won't bite the big one before the archiving issue is fixed. Gotta have the ability to roll back if needed.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Does Impulse's installation require .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 (on XP)? Some reg entries suggest it at least requires .NET 2.0. If so, might be part of why I can't get Impulse to install. I've been unable to get SP1 to successfully install on any of my XP rigs, have no idea why it won't install, just hangs as soon as installation is initialized.

Thanks.

Answered my own question by attempting to install the latest setup.exe & it installed without a hitch, updated without a hitch & looks good so far. It is a bit less customizable than SDC (e.g., can't hide/show apps and no 'auto'-archiving) but so far so good. Very polished look & feel. Mostly simple to navigate - only exception is the 'hidden' menu you can only find if you think to click on the Stardock logo, which is the only apparent way to get to the (not-so-extensive) Preferences dialog. Not everyone will easily stumble on to that.

One thing that seems to be contributing to confusion is the fact that Impulse shows updates 'available' for apps that have not really been updated, they just have the 'different server iteration' version number. How will we get rid of that? Do we have to let Impulse 'update' every one of those for it to 'understand' what we actually have installed?

One other glitch - Impulse shows 'Previous version installed' for CursorFX, even though I have the current version of CFX installed. The version number shown for the previously installed version in the info box is the last version number of CursorXP I had installed.

Looking real close to ready for prime time overall, however. All that hard work is paying off. Thanks & props to the Impulse Dev Team.

This issue was gone the next time I launched Impulse, now shows 'Update available' & the server iteration version difference like all the other apps.

If you right click on an app you can hide it.
You can unhide using a setting the orb

Hi! Great looking. But I have one problem.
Whenever I try to update ex. Object Dock Plus, and it happens with other apps too. It downloads allright, and it extract the files allright but it don´t install the update. I have left it there for one Hour and it still says "Installing".
Then I close it and following messages comes up:

1. Install of object dock plus encounterd a problem. Please try again. (Object Dock Plus).
2 Can not exit Impulse at this time. Please try again in a moment.

But I can close it.

My system is XP Home SP2
I have no problems witd SDC.
Any one has an idea?
April 10, 2008 10:24:19
Current version of Impulse (downloaded today) does not appear to be proxy aware. SDC set to use Internet Explorer settings, and works perfectly fine. I cannot get past the screen to "Login to Impulse", and therefore cannot even check any Impulse settings, as the main program window never even loads up.

I've got to say, reading all the feedback on this so far - it looks like an unfinished, Vista-style bloated app which looks real pretty, but has little substance and/or thought behind it towards actual end-user usability.
April 10, 2008 10:28:55
Removed old version, and installed new version. Still slooooooooow. After installing, and starting up, it took 22 minutes for it to go through logging in, receiving data, validating registrations, and downloading updates........ 22 minutes! And don't even try to move the window while all this is going on.....

Still getting 0 byte archives.

Disabling custom skin setting, is disappointing.

Think I'll stick with SDC for now. I don't have time to be 'Impulsive'

A 'skin' consists of more than the frame only.

Might be a SDC/Impulse version thing.
