Firefox 3 Release & Stardock Site Compatibility
Jul 30, 2008 12:59

Firefox 3.0 goes final and is scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 17th.

There are currently known incompatibilities between Firefox 3 and many of our sites and forums. For the most part, the sites function properly, but have formatting issues. A specific example are the login & password fields to log into these forums. In Firefox 3, instead of both being on the same line, they are stacked vertically.

We will be addressing these visual issues in time. Please do NOT post threads on the forums pointing out Firefox 3 site issues. They will be deleted. We are aware of the problems and will work as quickly as we can to resolve them.

Until posted otherwise, the only version of Firefox our sites support at the moment is Firefox 2.

Downloading Impulse update - Connecting...

By Posted March 31, 2008 05:37:11

Logs in OK

retrieves latest info

validates registrations

downloads updates up to 100.0% (2of2) then pops up

"Impulse was not able to update, self-updater not found in download. lease try again later.

press OK and get the same message, then again, then it stays on "Downloading Impulse update - Connecting..."

Exactly the same prob on 2 machines, Vista with SP1 on both, any help will be appreciated

Edit: Modes please delete the other 2 threads, Impulse did not take me away from the create thread/post windows when I hit submit, so I assumed it hadn't created the thread. Sorry.

Quick update on the 1st. Another due out very soon should also help. Look to the forums or simply restart a few times next week.

This has been resolved.  Please uninstall / reinstall if you are still seeing this issue.

With the latest Impulse update its back to doing it all again
April 10, 2008 05:34:15
found CleanImpulse.exe in the Impulse directory ran it and answered yes to everything, then unistalled Impulse from the control panel, ran CleanImpulse again, ran Impulse_Setup.exe as Administrator, unchecked "start Impulse now" at the end of installation, then ran Impulse as Administrator and Impulse updated and works fine.

I'm still getting this issue now... Tried cleaning it like G4E and it still sits there saying "connecting" and not actually doing anything. Plus it still won't work through the proxy server at work which is where this laptop is normally
April 10, 2008 17:03:46
Firstandonly are you doing this all under an administrator account? Have any security applications that could be messing with it?
April 10, 2008 18:15:38
I have full admin rights to my machine. I do have Kaspersky Internet Security running, but I have tried disabling the protection and installing the software and it still does the same thing. It has currently be running for 2 hours and still just says "connecting". The version I downloaded was from the link supplied in reply #5 earlier.

Click on the help ? icon in the top right. Then the XML Public folder. Delete everything in that folder and restart Impulse. Let me know if that works for you.

I've tried that now and it has made no difference...

Any security applications, UAC in Vista, router or port settings that could be interfearing with the software?
April 16, 2008 07:01:32
I am running Impulse on my Dell Latitude laptop running Windows XP SP2. As I have previously stated I have full admin rights to my machines as I am also a domain administrator here, and I do have Kaspersky Internet Security running on my machine, but I have put Impulse in as an exception. I have no access to change the settings on the corporate firewall however.

This is the configuration I have had on my system for over a year and SDC has always worked flawlessly. I am also currently typing this from within Impulse while browsing the forums! So why does that allow me to connect through the proxy, but won't let me log in to the Impulse update server. I have no issues like this with any other software.
April 16, 2008 09:10:32
firstandonly: It has to do with how Impulse is attempting to connect to a web service running on the Stardock servers. I've run some tests with one of the developers, and we found one method which DOES connect successfully. He says he'll try to get that method coded into Impulse soon - perhaps by the end of the week - so wait until then, as you're in the same boat as I (and I'm certain that we aren't the only ones who are... just seem to be the only ones making waves about it). Personally, I don't understand the need to change things to a web service when the browsers and SDC connect perfectly fine the way they are, but once a company makes up their mind about changing technology "just because it's the newest cool thing", they usually don't change their mind.

This might be a better way in the long run.  I'm glad that you have found a solution to the problem!

@ OpusCroakus: I'm glad they have finally found a solution. At least we weren't being ignored like we would be with other larger companies. Looking forward to finally trying out the software now

An update and back to the old problem

I have tried all the revious methods, but this time no luck.
April 18, 2008 07:38:07

I just finished coding the fix for Proxy servers last night, after the update was published.     We still need to do more internal testing before we release another update.  But it shouldn't be too much longer.  Once the update is published there will be a new section under Preferences->Connetion to explicity enter your proxy settings (as well on the logon screen too).  By having Impulse directly use your proxy settings instead of inheriting them through IE should correct these issues.

I've done all of the above - zip, nada, still can't update or use Impulse..
April 21, 2008 10:19:40
Purrdy are you getting specific error messages? Have any security software you can try turning off to see if you are getting blocked?
April 22, 2008 07:46:27
Same as first post and I've allowed Impulse in Kaspersky.

April 25, 2008 19:22:10
Thats all I keep getting also, and I've reinstalled the thing like four times today already....
April 25, 2008 23:43:01
Purrdy and Vega- do you have any other computers accessable to you that you could try out getting Impulse on a downloaded? Also does it happen when you install off this link:
